OPTICAL ENGINEER

Key Responsibilities

• Support installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing of DWDM systems.

• Perform optical power measurement, span loss validation, and fiber characterization.

• Execute MOPs under supervision during maintenance and firmware upgrades.

• Conduct pre-checks and post-checks for system health verification.

• Coordinate with NOC, PMO, and vendor support teams during scheduled activities.

• Maintain accurate documentation, runbooks, and post-activity reports.

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Telecommunications Engineering.

• Basic understanding of optical transmission concepts (CWDM, DWDM, OSNR, BER).

• Familiar with fiber tools (OTDR, light source, power meter).

• Willing to learn vendor-specific platforms (Ciena 6500, ADTRAN/ADVA FSP3000).

• Strong discipline in following procedures and reporting deviations.

• Fresh graduates or 1-2 years experience in optical/network field preferred.

Senior Optical Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Lead optical deployment and maintenance projects across Ciena and ADTRAN platforms.

• Perform system-level configuration, firmware upgrades, and encryption module handling.

• Troubleshoot service degradation, key exchange issues, or alarm faults (e.g., shutoff threshold, crypto password errors).

• Coordinate with vendor TAC (Ciena, ADTRAN) for escalation and RCA resolution.

• Validate and endorse MOPs, risk assessments, and rollback plans.

• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance during live operations.

• Ensure ITIL-aligned process compliance across change and incident management.

Requirements

• Degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, or related field.

• Minimum 4-6 years of hands-on experience in DWDM/OTN optical systems.

• Proficient in Ciena 6500 and/or ADTRAN FSP3000 R7-R8/F8 systems.

• Strong troubleshooting skills on OSNR, BER, fiber impairments, and encryption modules.

• Experience handling vendor firmware upgrades, EMS (Site Manager/FSP NM), and key exchange configurations.

• Familiar with optical design principles, span power balancing, and redundancy planning.

• Excellent documentation, communication, and leadership skills.
