What you'll really be doing

In this role, you'll be handson with core infrastructure and trusted to keep it stable, secure, and available:

  • Server and Virtualisation Operations You'll administer and support enterprise virtualisation platforms such as VMware vSphere and HyperV, along with Linux and Windows servers, ensuring systems are healthy, patched, and performing as expected.
  • Monitoring and Stability You'll install, manage, and maintain server monitoring tools, perform regular health checks, and respond to issues to minimise downtime across virtual and physical environments.
  • Security, Patching, and Reliability You'll execute patching and maintenance activities, follow security and compliance standards, and help ensure systems remain secure and reliable in production environments.

Required Skills And Experience

  • 35 years of handson experience in enterprise systems or infrastructure administration
  • Proven experience in enterprise server administration, supporting both Linux and Windows environments
  • Strong handson experience with enterprise virtualisation platforms, such as VMware vSphere and/or HyperV
  • Solid background in server monitoring and patch management across virtual and physical infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure operations best practices, including system health checks, stability, and availability
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and basic routing
  • Experience operating within secure or regulated environments, following defined standards and procedures
  • Strong problemsolving skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders

Preferred Skills And Experience

  • Experience supporting cloud or hybrid environments, particularly with AWS infrastructure
  • Familiarity with automation or scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) for operational efficiency
  • Exposure to container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS
  • Experience with backup, disaster recovery, or highavailability solutions
  • Relevant technical certifications (e.g., VMware, Microsoft, Red Hat, AWS)
  • Prior experience working in government or highly regulated enterprise environments
