Operational Accounting Consultant | Singapore | 1-year Contract | 100% Remote Work

We are partnering with a leading global technology company to appoint an experienced Operational Accounting Consultant to support its finance team in Singapore.

The ideal profile combines strong Big 4 accounting/audit fundamentals with hands-on commercial accounting experience. Candidates should be able to demonstrate not only knowledge of accounting principles, but also the ability to own reconciliations, investigate issues, explain variances, work with payroll/HR data and independently resolve accounting queries in a global operating environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reversals, adjustments and account analysis.
  • Apply US GAAP and global accounting policies to operational accounting and financial reporting activities.
  • Review and account for payroll and employee-related transactions, including salary, bonus, employee benefits, payroll accruals, employee taxes and related balance sheet accounts.
  • Perform end-to-end balance sheet reconciliations, including investigation and resolution of aged, unusual or unexplained reconciling items.
  • Analyse payroll and employee-benefit account movements, identify variances and clearly explain the underlying drivers.
  • Review and validate accounting entries against supporting payroll, HR and financial data to ensure completeness, accuracy and appropriate period recognition.
  • Support accounting for employee benefits and share-based compensation, where applicable.
  • Partner closely with HR, Finance, Shared Services and other cross-functional stakeholders to resolve accounting queries and discrepancies.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audits, demonstrating awareness of potential audit risks and supporting requirements.
  • Respond independently to stakeholder and audit queries, exercising sound judgement on when to investigate further and when to escalate.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, reconciliations and reporting efficiency.
  • Support financial reporting, variance analysis and other ad hoc accounting or controllership projects as required.

Desired Experience & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably combining Big 4 audit and in-house commercial accounting experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience in operational accounting and month-end close.
  • Practical knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Experience with payroll accounting, employee benefits, payroll accruals or related employee-related balance sheet accounts.
  • Demonstrated experience independently performing balance sheet reconciliations and investigating variances.
  • Strong understanding of journal entries, accruals, reversals, prepayments, intercompany transactions and accounting adjustments.
  • Strong audit awareness, with the ability to anticipate supporting documentation and questions auditors may raise.
  • Ability to analyse financial data, identify unusual movements and explain accounting drivers clearly.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to handle queries independently and escalate appropriately.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, global environment with ambiguity and changing priorities.
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with SAP, Oracle or other ERP systems preferred.
  • Experience working within a US-headquartered, global MNC or technology environment would be advantageous.
  • CPA/CA/ACCA or equivalent professional qualification is preferred.
