Operation Director (Cum Business Development Director)

We are seeing a highly driven and results-oriented Operations Director (cum Business Development Director) to lead operational excellence and commercial growth within our Singapore-based shipyard operations in Tuas. This role is responsible for overseeing ship repair, shipbuilding and FPSO module construction, ensuring projects are executed efficiently, delivered on schedule and meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

The successful candidate will manage daily yard operations while actively pursuing new business opportunities, securing contracts and strengthening relationships with shipowners, EPC contractors and offshore clients. Working closely with senior management and Human Resources, you will also play a key role in developing workforce capabilities, implementing succession planning and fostering strong collaboration across engineering, production and commercial functions.

To succeed in this role, you must consistently deliver complex marine and offshore project safely, on time and within budget, while enhancing the organization's reputation in Singapore's competitive shipyard sector. The ideal candidate possesses a strong blend of operational expertise, commercial insight and proven leadership experience in shipyard environments.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee all yard operations, including ship repair, dry-docking, conversion works, newbuilding and FPSO module fabrication. Develop and implement strategies to enhance productivity, optimize yard capacity and improve resource utilization. Drive business growth by identifying, pursuing and securing new projects across ship repair, shipbuilding and FPSO module construction. Manage the full tendering lifecycle, including cost estimation, bid preparation and contract negotiations. Establish and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, offshore contractors and repeat clients within the region. Ensure all projects are delivered in accordance with contractual requirements, timelines, budgets and quality standards. Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, cost control, margin optimization and cash flow management. Implement cost-efficiency initiatives, reduce rework, and enhance operational effectiveness across the yard. Collaborate closely with engineering, procurement and production teams to ensure seamless project execution. Lead workforce planning, performance management and capability development to maintain a competent and safety-focused workforce. Champion Health, safety & Environment (HSE) standards and ensure strict compliance with all yard safety protocols. Monitor and drive key performance indicators (KPIs) across both operations and business development to achieve operational and revenue targets.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years leadership experience in Singapore-based shipyards, with exposure to ship repair, shipbuilding or FPSO module projects. Proven track record in managing dry-docking, conversion or newbuilding projects within Tuas-based yard environments. Strong experience in business development, tendering and contract acquisition within the marine or offshore sector. Solid understanding of shipyard operations, including structural, mechanical and module fabrication works. Familiarity with classification society requirements (e.g., ABS, DNV, LIoyd's Register) and shipyard quality standards. Strong financial and commercial acumen, including budgeting, cost control and project margin management. Demonstrated leadership capability in managing large, multi-disciplinary teams within a shipyard environment. Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills. High level of professionalism, integrity and commitment to safety and operational excellence. Ability to develop and execute strategic plans and forecasts for up to three years ahead.
