Job Description

Clinical Practice

  • Conduct occupational therapy assessments and provide appropriate interventions to support residents functional abilities, independence and quality of life.

  • Participate in patient review meetings with the multidisciplinary team and provide occupational therapy recommendations where appropriate.

  • Guide and supervise Therapy Assistants and volunteers in the delivery of relevant therapy-related activities.

  • Work closely with the rehabilitation and multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective communication and continuity of care.

Professional Development & Training

  • Maintain current professional knowledge and stay informed of developments and evidence-based practices in occupational therapy.

  • Contribute to the continuous development and improvement of occupational therapy services within the department.

  • Support the training and development of therapy aides, therapy associates, volunteers and caregivers.

  • Teach, guide and supervise Occupational Therapy and Therapy Assistant students during their clinical placements.

  • Support in-service training and educational activities for nursing staff on occupational therapy-related matters.

  • Participate in relevant research and service development projects.

Administrative & Operational Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support and appropriate coverage for occupational therapy services within the Allied Health Team when required.

  • Compile departmental workload statistics and monthly incident reports for submission to the Head of Allied Health and Senior Therapist-in-Charge.

  • Provide appropriate feedback and input into the performance development and appraisal of Therapy Assistants and Therapy Associates.

Quality Improvement & Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in departmental initiatives, interdepartmental committees and quality improvement projects.

  • Identify areas for improvement and contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate solutions.

  • Carry out other relevant duties assigned by the Senior Therapist-in-Charge or Head of Allied Health.
