Job Title: Network Perimeter Engineer

Employment Type: Contract 12 Months

We are seeking an experienced Network Perimeter Engineer to design, operate, and secure our enterprise and cloud network perimeter. This role is responsible for managing firewall, VPN, reverse proxy, and network security infrastructure across AWS and on‑prem / hybrid environments. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with AWS network services and leading network security platforms including Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, Cisco, and F5.

Responsibilities

·       Implement and administer firewalls and security appliances e.g. Palo Alto Firewalls, VPN, and cloud-native services like AWS WAF.

·       Administer and support AWS network services, including VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, NACLs, Transit Gateway, and load balancing

·       Collaborate with cloud architects, cybersecurity teams, and DevOps engineers to design secure and resilient cloud network topologies.

·       Troubleshoot and optimize network performance using AWS CloudWatch, VPC Flow Logs, CloudTrail, and other monitoring tools.

·       Perform upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management of network and security devices during weekend maintenance window

User Support & Operations

·       Provide Level 2 / Level 3 support for incidents and service requests

·       Monitor network performance and infrastructure health to ensure availability and optimal operation

IT Service Management

·       Understands ITIL processes for Incident, Problem, Change Management

·       Create and update tickets with detailed documentation and resolution steps

·       Maintain SLAs and ensure timely ticket resolution

Documentation & Knowledge Management

·       Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge articles, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)

·       Maintain runbooks for common operational tasks

Required skills and qualifications:

·       Degree in Computer Science, Computing, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, IT or related field.

·       At least two years of practical experience in network engineering, including managing AWS or hybrid cloud networks.

·       Expertise in network segmentation, traffic filtering, and firewall policy management to enforce security.

·       Proficiency with network architectures, optimisation and troubleshooting

·       Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across service providers and project teams.

·       Participate in 24/7 standby rotation to provide operational support

Preferred skills and qualifications:

·       Relevant certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional, Palo Alto Networks Certified Next-Generation Firewall Engineer)

·       Experience with security and compliance frameworks relevant to government and regulated environments.

·       Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation and Ansible.

·       Familiarity with Zero Trust network design principles.
