Summary
The Network Hands & Feet Engineer is responsible for providing on-site physical support within the data center. This role ensures the smooth operation of network and IT infrastructure by performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordination with remote engineering teams while adhering to standard operating procedures and security policies.
Responsibilities
- Perform rack and stack installation of network and IT equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, servers)
- Execute structured cabling (fiber and copper), including labeling and documentation
- Handle power-related tasks such as cabling,power cycling, and basic power maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections and preventivemaintenance of data center equipment
- Replace and troubleshoot faulty hardwarecomponents (PSUs, line cards, fans, optics, cables)
- Provide console access and remote supportassistance to engineering teams
- Monitor physical device status includingLEDs, alarms, and environmental conditions
- Escort vendors and third-party engineerswithin the data center as per access policies
- Coordinate with network, security, andoperations teams to execute tasks and changes
- Maintain data center housekeeping standards,ensuring proper cable management and cleanliness
- Update activity logs, incident records, andimplementation reports accurately
Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Information Technology or related field
- Hands-on experience in a data center or IT infrastructure environment
- Basic understanding of networking devices (routers, switches, firewalls)
- Knowledge of structured cabling systems (fiber optics and copper)
- Familiarity with SOPs, runbooks, and change management processes
- Experience in enterprise or colocation datacenters
- Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, VLANs, console connectivity)
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent
- Experience working with multi-vendor environments (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, HPE)
- Ability to work in a shift-based environment, including weekends and on-call support
- Physically capable of handling and moving equipment as per safety guidelines
