The Role
1. To be responsible for the smooth running of the Cytology Department. Working with consultant pathologists to perform Cytology tests - pap smears and non-genecology tests, rotating through various working hours to deliver accurate, reliable and prompt reporting.
1. Staff in this position are required to perform shift duties and call back duties.Key accountabilities
To perform the duties and responsibilities as laid out in the job description of Medical Technologist (Cytology Department) and supervise junior or new staff.
To be responsible for on-the-job training of new staff.
To be involved in the preparation and maintaining current work instruction manuals and assist in ensuring follow through by staff.
To maintain proper inventory levels of all supplies via the laboratory computer system and take appropriate actions to rectify any deficiencies.
To review daily quality control (QC) results and discuss with Consultant Pathologists to improve areas of deficiencies.
To ensure compliance with all regulatory guidelines, participating in hospital quality assurance programs, audit process, etc.
To assist the Senior Medical Technologist or Section Manager in supervision and problem solving in the Cytology Department.
To assist the Senior Medical Technologist or Section Manager in planning purchases, budgeting, audit, etc.
To act as deputy or in-charge of the Cytology Department in the absence of Senior Medical Technologist or Section Manager.
Supports flexible staffing requirements in the department. Any other duties as assigned from time to time by management.Qualifications & Experience
Recognized Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology, Science degree, Polytechnic Diploma or equivalent.
Must have recognized cytology certification (IAC or equivalent).
Four to five years experience in cytology work in a medical laboratory with some years in senior position preferred.
Proficient and skillful in cytopathology - gynaecology and non-gynaecology - screening / reporting, quality control, etc. Interpersonal, communication, supervisory skills.Additional Information

Communication Skill Interact effectively in conveying job information both oral and written Computer Skill Able to work with the computer system in the lab.
Training and Teaching To carry out on-the-job training for new staff/trainees.
Problem Solving Skill Able to independently troubleshoot problems that arise and resolve problems in consultation with the superior.
