About the Role
We are looking for a Mechatronics & Systems Engineer who understands hardware-software architecture, can design electrical drawings, and can supervise technicians, vendors, and freelancers to ensure successful machine integration. Your responsibility is to design, review, coordinate, and supervise the technical work across electrical, electronics, and mechanical teams.
This role focuses on system-level engineering, technical coordination, integration planning, and ensuring machines operate as intended.
Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical System Design & Documentation
Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control layouts.
Define specifications for sensors, motors, power supplies, I/O modules, and communication lines.
Supervise electricians/technicians to ensure wiring follows the approved drawings.
Perform testing, wiring checks, and prototype assembly when needed.
2. PLC & Control System Understanding
Understand how PLCs interact with sensors, actuators and motors.
Able to read and write PLC ladder logic diagrams.
Familiarity with the Mitsubishi Electric PLC environment is preferred.
Familiar with communication protocols such as Modbus TCP and RS485.
Coordinate with software engineers on integration points.
Perform testing and validation at customer locations.
3. Electronics & SBC Integration
Work with single-board computers (e.g., Orange Pi, Raspberry Pi) at a system level:
Define wiring, power requirements, interfaces, and communication structures.
Coordinate with software engineers on integration points.
Provide guidance on component selection (sensors, modules, boards).
4. System Integration Oversight
Understand how mechanical, electrical, PLC, and electronics components fit together.
Plan and validate the system architecture of machines such as vending equipment or automation modules.
Contribute to high-level design decisions and evaluate tradeoffs in architecture, components, and implementation.
Troubleshoot integration issues at a supervisory level and coordinate solutions among technicians or vendors.
5. Supplier, Vendor & Freelancer Coordination
Communicate technical requirements clearly to machine shops, electrical suppliers, technical freelancers, etc.
Review quotations, drawings, and samples for technical accuracy.
Track deliverables, ensure specs are met, and resolve technical discrepancies.
Support technical purchasing decisions.
6. Project Management
Coordinate multiple technical stakeholders and keep timelines on track.
Plan integration milestones and ensure all parts of the system meet project goals.
Maintain clear project documentation and version control.
7. Research & Solution Development
Research new components, technologies, sensors, and integration methods.
Evaluate feasibility and propose solutions that fit the system architecture.
Support continuous improvement of machine reliability and performance.
Requirements
Degree or diploma in Mechatronics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
Able to read and design electrical schematics (AutoCAD Electrical or similar).
Strong understanding of system architecture involving PLC, SBC, sensors, actuators, and mechanical components.
Familiar with industrial protocols such as RS485 and Modbus TCP.
Comfortable supervising technicians and coordinating external vendors.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to break down complex systems.
Good communication skills for managing multiple suppliers and freelancers.
Proactive, self-directed, and able to manage multiple projects at once.
Nice to Have
Basic mechanical understanding (assembly, tolerances, motion systems).
Experience with Orange Pi, Raspberry Pi, or embedded systems.
Ability to evaluate BOM cost, component alternatives, or supply chain risks.
