Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing HVAC ducting installation works on construction projects. The role involves ensuring that ductwork installations are completed according to approved drawings, project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and project schedules. The engineer coordinates with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and site teams to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities
- Review HVAC shop drawings, duct layouts, and construction documents.
- Plan and supervise ducting fabrication and installation activities.
- Ensure ductwork installation complies with project specifications, SMACNA standards, and local regulations.
- Coordinate with other disciplines (Civil, Architectural, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection) to resolve site clashes.
- Monitor installation of duct supports, hangers, dampers, insulation, and accessories.
- Conduct site inspections and ensure workmanship meets quality standards.
- Review material submittals and technical specifications.
- Verify dimensions and site conditions before installation.
- Prepare method statements, risk assessments, and work procedures.
- Supervise testing, balancing, and commissioning activities.
Project Management Responsibilities
- Prepare work schedules and monitor project progress.
- Coordinate manpower, materials, tools, and equipment requirements.
- Track installation quantities and prepare progress reports.
- Attend project meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Identify project risks and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure work is completed within approved budgets and timelines.
Quality Control Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections during fabrication and installation stages.
- Ensure compliance with approved shop drawings and quality standards.
- Prepare inspection requests (IRs) and coordinate consultant approvals.
- Maintain quality records, checklists, and documentation.
- Resolve non-conformance reports (NCRs) and quality issues.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Ensure compliance with site safety regulations and permit requirements.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Monitor safe lifting, working at height, and installation practices.
- Investigate and report safety incidents and near misses.
- Promote a safe working environment for all personnel.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
- Maintain installation records and as-built drawings.
- Review material delivery and inventory records.
- Prepare quantity take-offs and support project billing activities.
- Coordinate with document control teams for project documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 3-8 years of experience in HVAC and ducting installation projects.
- Experience in commercial, residential, industrial, or high-rise construction projects.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems, duct design, fabrication, and installation practices.
- Familiarity with SMACNA, ASHRAE, and local building codes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office applications.
