Mechanical Engineer (Construction & Manufacturing)

Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, installing, and maintaining mechanical systems and equipment used in construction projects and manufacturing operations. This role ensures efficiency, safety, reliability, and compliance with industry standards while supporting project execution and production performance.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

• Design mechanical systems such as HVAC, piping, pumping systems, and industrial machinery.
• Prepare engineering drawings, layouts, and technical specifications.
• Perform calculations for load, stress, and material selection.
• Select appropriate equipment and materials based on project or production requirements.

Project Management (Construction)

• Oversee installation of mechanical systems at construction sites.
• Coordinate with civil, electrical, and project teams to ensure proper integration.
• Monitor project timelines, budgets, and contractor performance.
• Review and approve contractor drawings and work plans.

Manufacturing & Plant Operations

• Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical equipment such as compressors, conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, and turbines.
• Support production teams to improve machine efficiency and minimize downtime.
• Implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

Installation & Commissioning

• Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
• Ensure systems are functioning as designed before handover.
• Identify and resolve defects during commissioning.

Maintenance & Reliability

• Develop maintenance schedules and SOPs for machinery and equipment.
• Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures.
• Recommend upgrades or modifications to enhance performance and lifespan.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all mechanical systems comply with safety standards and codes (e.g., ASME, ISO, local regulations).
• Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures.
• Participate in audits, safety inspections, and incident investigations.

Cost Control & Efficiency

• Optimize mechanical systems to reduce operational costs and energy usage.
• Support budgeting and cost estimation for projects and maintenance activities.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain technical documentation including drawings, manuals, and maintenance records.
• Prepare reports on project progress, system performance, and maintenance activities.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Experience

• 2-7 years of experience in mechanical engineering within construction or manufacturing industries.
• Experience with industrial equipment and project execution is preferred.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, rotating equipment, etc.).
• Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
• Understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials engineering.
• Experience with maintenance strategies and reliability engineering.
• Familiarity with industry standards and codes.
