Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join a global design organisation operating at scale within the mission-critical sector.

This role sits at the heart of our global standards and design governance function, shaping the mechanical direction of next-generation data centre infrastructure deployed across multiple regions.

The successful candidate will play a key role in translating high-level Owner's Project Requirements into robust, repeatable, globally aligned design standards and reference designs. Working closely with regional engineering, design delivery teams, and cross-functional business units, you will ensure that mechanical systems are designed, reviewed, and implemented to the highest levels of quality, performance, efficiency and reliability.

This is an opportunity for a recognised technical expert to influence global mechanical strategy, support design governance at all project stages, and drive continuous improvement across a rapidly expanding international portfolio.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining product and industry knowledge. You will work in a team-oriented environment that accelerates operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Deep specialist knowledge in mechanical systems, thermodynamics, cooling technologies, CFD, and heat-transfer principles.
  • Strong understanding of data centre mechanical infrastructure, including integration with wider MEP systems.
  • Advanced ability to optimise and fine-tune systems for performance, efficiency and reliability.
  • Highly developed understanding of commissioning processes (Cx) and system test scripts.
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking, capable of influencing high-impact design decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively across international, cross-functional, and culturally diverse teams.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship capabilities.
  • Passion for innovation, process improvement, and building scalable design frameworks.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional membership relevant to mechanical/data centre engineering (preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years experience in data centres or mission-critical M&E environments.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams in a senior, lead, or consultant-level capacity.
  • Exposure to international projects and large-scale technical organisations.
  • Experience working with or supporting hyperscale clients (advantageous).
