MAEK Consulting Pte Ltd is a specialist consultancy in built heritage conservation, building diagnostics, and material performance assessment. We work at the intersection of engineering, science, and conservation, supporting the sensitive repair, restoration, and long-term care of historic and existing buildings.
We are seeking a Materials Engineer / Materials Scientist with a strong interest in building materials and heritage conservation to join our multidisciplinary team.
Investigate and characterise traditional and modern building materials (e.g. lime-based mortars, masonry, concrete, timber, stone, metals, coatings).
Conduct material testing, analysis, and diagnostics, including sampling strategies, laboratory testing, and interpretation of results.
Support condition surveys, defect investigations, and failure analysis related to material deterioration.
Assess material compatibility, durability, and performance for repair and conservation works.
Prepare technical reports, specifications, and recommendations for conservation and repair projects.
Collaborate with conservation architects, engineers, and specialists on interdisciplinary projects.
Contribute to research, method development, and knowledge building in conservation materials and techniques.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Civil Engineering (materials-focused), Chemistry, or a related discipline.
Strong grounding in building materials science and material behaviour.
Experience or demonstrated interest in historic building materials and conservation is highly desirable.
Familiarity with laboratory techniques (e.g. microscopy, chemical analysis, physical and mechanical testing).
Ability to interpret test results and translate them into practical conservation solutions.
Good technical writing and communication skills.
Detail-oriented, curious, and comfortable working across disciplines.
Experience with lime mortars, historic masonry, concrete repair, timber decay, corrosion, or coatings.
Knowledge of conservation principles, material compatibility, and minimal intervention approaches.
Experience working on heritage buildings or existing building refurbishment projects.
Exposure to relevant standards, guidelines, or conservation frameworks.
Work on meaningful heritage and conservation projects across the region.
