Market Reporter, Agriculture

The Market Reporter will cover the Asia-Pacific agriculture markets, including grains, oilseeds and vegetable oils markets, through commodity price assessments, analysis and news coverage, maintaining and expanding the contact base and representing Argus at industry events. The reporter will also spearhead development of market coverage alongside the associate editor and the global agriculture editorial team.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect market prices and make assessments, with a primary focus on the southeast Asian crude palm oil market, adhering to rigorous compliance standards and in line with published methodology.
• Write market commentaries, news, analysis and market outlooks; develop graphs and charts within Excel to illustrate trends and analysis; communicate this information in a timely manner to management and subscribers.
• Work with and interview subject matter experts; research industry trends.
• Contribute to presentations as directed by management.
• Develop and maintain rapport with key contacts, and liaise regularly with industry stakeholders (buyers, sellers, traders, brokers) to gain market intelligence.
• Develop new contacts within the market to aid with gathering prices and general market intelligence.
• Maintain existing databases and build new databases for designated products.
• Oversee methodology relevant to coverage, which includes timely communication of needed changes, additions or deletions.
• Adhere to strict deadlines.
• Provide subject-matter expertise to other Argus departments.
• Work on special projects as needed.
• Cover conferences and events (some travel required)
  
  

Skills And Experience

• An articulate graduate with a strong degree.
• Ability to develop, verify and write industry-relevant news/content to deadline is preferred.
• Knowledge of the commodities markets useful but not essential.
• Excellent writing, grammar and numeracy skills (these will be tested as part of the interview process) and a drive to produce high-quality written content.
• Ability to use data to generate stories and analysis is preferred, while a willingness to learn is essential.
• Excellent communication skills with ability to network and build contacts with industry executives.
• Prior experience of working in the financial or commodities journalism is useful but not essential.
• Strong co-ordination and time management skills with the ability to work well within a team, and a keen eye for detail.
