  • Responsible for financial books of the University and its subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with Singapore FRS and any local statutory requirements.
  • Lead financial audits and statutory filings, including financial report and filing to the Charity Portal.
  • Oversee monthly and annual close process and full financial reporting.
  • Oversee financial accounting matters, and directly manage General Ledger, Fixed Asset functions, and quarterly GST reporting.
  • Review monthly audit schedules, journal entry postings and audit schedules, manage Chart of Accounts.
  • Perform capitalisation of fixed assets according to policy, maintain fixed asset register and schedules, perform review on depreciation runs.
  • Perform assessments of complex accounting issues and address queries on accounting and other financial matters.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures and controls e.g. consult on adoption of new accounting treatment and the establishment and implementation of accounting policies, procedures and controls for new and existing transactions, especially on those involving significant estimates or judgement.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement on policies and processes.
  • Design financial analysis to extract key insights on financial transactions.
  • Prepare key reports, papers and presentations to senior management, the Board, and other stakeholders.
  • Support and coordinate internal audit engagements that may transverse across various finance functions, ensure flow through of recommendations.
  • Coordinate interactions both within Finance and with other internal and external stakeholders on financial issues and queries, e.g. represent SMU in independently liaising with external stakeholders (e.g. auditors, lawyers) and internal stakeholders (e.g. senior management).
  • Manage/support systems implementation and related IT projects e.g. HRFS refresh project.
  • Lead/support finance related and cross department projects.
  • Directly oversee the work of the Senior Accounts Executive.
  • Other ad-hoc duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Degree or professional qualification in Accounting or Business with at least 5 years of relevant financial accounting experience and 2 years in a managerial position.
  • Candidates with Chartered Accountant (CA) / Certified Public Accountant (CPA) would be advantageous.
  • Audit experience, especially with the Big 4, would be advantageous.
  • Experience in the government or education sector would be advantageous.
  • Strong technical knowledge in accounting, well versed in FRS and its application.
  • Knowledge of Singapore Good & Service Tax (GST) Act.
  • Experience in process flow and compliance matters.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in SAP will be advantageous.
  • Highly motivated individual, resourceful and able to multi-task and work independently.
  • Good organization skills, able to work flexibly to lead projects and demonstrate critical thinking to problem solve.
  • Effective team lead in a hands-on management capacity.
  • Proactive and mature team player with good interpersonal skills who can communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
