Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • To manage the legal, compliance and governance matters including dispute resolution.
  • To lead decision-making processes and provide legal advice on issues and disputes faced by group companies within the Asia-Pacific region, involving approximately 100 group entities.
  • To support new investment, trading business or divestment projects of Headquarter in Japan or Sumitomo group, from international and domestic legal point of view, as well as compliance and governance matters.
  • To provide legal and compliance support of PMI (Post merger Integration) for newly acquired companies.
  • To serve as the communication hub for regional legal and compliance activities within Asia and Oceania region, as well as the Headquarter in Japan.
  • To build, train, and develop a diverse group of members who are engaging in legal and compliance within the group by deepening their understanding of legal and compliance as well as Sumitomo's compliance and governance policy.
  • To manage the corporate secretarial issue of the Singapore entities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
  • At least 15 years of experience as in-house legal counsel in international trade, covering investments, energy, chemicals, media and digital, infrastructure, metals, natural resources, real estate, and healthcare businesses.
  • Proven hands-on legal experience in Japan, China, and Indonesia.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance and governance, risk management, investments, and accounting is required.
  • Comprehensive and in-depth expertise in contract drafting, dispute resolution, and the provision of broad legal advice across diverse business activities.
  • Broad understanding of laws and regulations across the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Deep understanding of the Japanese Trading House's business development and investments.
