Job Description
The Manager of Conservation will lead and oversee conservation initiatives for the Singapore Oceanarium (SGO). This pivotal role involves long-term planning and execution of conservation strategies both internally and externally, nationally, and internationally.
The Conservation Manager will lead a team of conservation professionals, engage with government bodies, non-government organisations, and academic facilities to represent the institution, carry out conservation actions, publish scientific papers, and ensure effective training and monitoring of staff.
Responsibilities:
. Develop and implement long-term conservation strategies and goals, supporting the implementation of the Conservation Master Plan, ensuring alignment with global and regional conservation priorities.
. Supervise a team working to implement conservation initiatives that align with the Singapore Oceanarium Conservation Master Plan.
. Serve as a liaison between SGO and external partners, including conservation groups, NGOs, government agencies, academic institutions, wildlife biologists, legislators, landowners, legal teams, stakeholders, and philanthropists.
. Supervise and coordinate the publication of research findings in scientific journals and other media, promoting SGO's contributions to marine science and conservation.
. Represent SGO at conferences, workshops, and during accreditation processes, enhancing its profile and influence in the conservation community.
. Engage with government bodies and legal teams to ensure all conservation activities comply with relevant regulations and policies.
. Foster strong relationships with academic institutions, particularly in Singapore, to promote collaborative conservation opportunities.
. Manage legal documentation related to collaborations, partnerships, and MOUs, ensuring all activities are properly documented and compliant with legal standards.
. Work closely with the SGO Research team to help ensure conservation relevance of research.
. Work closely with the RWS Conservation Fund team to ensure smooth delivery of projects funded under that programme.
. Work closely with the SGO Volunteers and Outreach team on citizen science, volunteer, and youth engagement initiatives around conservation.
Requirements:
. Master's or PhD degree in environmental science, marine biology, ecology, or a related field.
. At least 8 years of relevant experience, preferably from working in a conservation organization.
. Experience in strategic conservation planning, development of frameworks, and long-term conservation plans.
. Experience managing a team of at least 2-5 staff in the field of conservation.
. Prior experience at a zoological institution is an asset.
. Ability to write and review scientific publications.
. Optimal oral and written communication skills.
. Able to work in a diverse and fast-paced environment.
. Familiarity with the national, regional, and/or international conservation landscape.
