Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lubrication Specialist to join our Singapore operations, responsible for supporting sales efforts while providing advanced technical expertise in lubricant testing equipment. This unique role bridges customer support, technical consultation, and business development within the lubricant industry. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert on ASTM lubricant testing methodologies and equipment from leading manufacturers including but not limited to Tannas, Cannon, Koehler Instruments, Anton Paar, and PAC, while supporting field service activities and customer implementation projects.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Support & Business Development:
- Identify and support sales opportunities within the lubricant industry, including oil refineries, automotive suppliers, chemical companies, and independent testing laboratories
- Provide pre-sales technical consultation to prospective customers, translating their testing requirements into appropriate equipment solutions
- Conduct technical demonstrations and present customized proposals for lubricant testing equipment packages
- Support account executives with technical product guidance during client meetings and negotiations
- Assist in the development of industry-specific sales strategies and positioning for lubricant analysis products
- Participate in industry conferences, trade shows, and exhibitions related to lubricant testing and petroleum products
- Gather and communicate market intelligence on customer needs, emerging testing standards, and competitive activities within the lubricant sector
- Generate technical quotations and specifications for lubricant testing equipment configurations
Application Specialist & Technical Support:
- Serve as the primary technical expert on lubricant testing methodologies, ASTM standards (D445, D482, D664, D2272, D2887, D6304, and related specifications), and equipment capabilities
- Conduct on-site commissioning, validation, and troubleshooting of lubricant testing instruments
- Provide technical training to laboratory personnel on proper operation, maintenance, and quality assurance procedures for lubricant testing equipment
- Support method development and validation for new testing protocols and customized applications
- Prepare detailed technical reports and application notes for clients and internal teams
- Maintain current knowledge of lubricant testing best practices, regulatory requirements, and industry standards (ASTM, ISO, API)
- Document and communicate lessons learned from field implementations to improve product application and customer success
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with internal technical teams and manufacturers to resolve complex application challenges
- Support marketing and technical documentation development for lubricant testing products
- Provide feedback to manufacturers on product performance, field issues, and customer requirements
- Maintain accurate records of customer installations, configurations, and service history
Required Qualifications
Educational Background:
- Minimum Diploma in Chemical engineering, Chemistry, Petroleum Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of relevant professional experience
- Strong foundation in analytical chemistry, petroleum products chemistry, tribology, and instrumentation principles
Professional Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in lubricant testing, petroleum product analysis, or related analytical instrumentation field
- Demonstrated experience with ASTM lubricant testing standards and methodologies
- Prior hands-on experience with lubricant testing equipment (viscosity, oxidation stability, thermal stability, acid number, wear protection, etc.)
- Experience in a customer-facing technical role, either as an application engineer, technical specialist, or service engineer
- Proven ability to work effectively in both technical and commercial environments
- Experience in or knowledge of the lubricant, oil refining, automotive, or petroleum products industry is highly desirable
Technical Skills:
- In-depth understanding of lubricant properties, performance requirements, and ASTM/ISO testing standards
- Proficiency in troubleshooting electronic and mechanical systems
- Strong knowledge of viscometry, oxidation testing, physical property measurements, and elemental analysis techniques
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, equipment schematics, and service manuals
- Competency with laboratory data management systems and analytical instrumentation software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
