Operating and driving a lorry to transport goods and materials over specified routes to local or distant points according to a time schedule.
Inspecting vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance.
Complying with lorry driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures.
Planning routes and meeting delivery schedules.
Loading and unloading cargo from the lorry, often with the help of a forklift, stacker or pallet jack.
Collecting and verifying delivery instructions, including signatures from customers.
Reporting defects, accidents or violations immediately.
Keeping the lorry and associated equipment clean and in good working order.
Communicating effectively with clients or dispatchers about delays or problems on the route.
Qualifications:
Proven work experience as a Class 4 Driver.
Valid lorry driving license.
Ability to drive long hours and handle multiple trips to and from factory and customer sites.
Ability to operate stacker or have forklift license a great advantage.
Extensive knowledge of applicable lorry driving rules and regulations.
No recent moving or driving violations.
Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations. (traffic, weather conditions etc)
Willing to submit to background/drug checks and provide employment recommendations.
