What's the role

This role offers an opportunity to develop as a physical LNG trader within the Shell LNG Marketing & Trading (SLMT) organization, with responsibility for executing trades and optimising positions across Asian LNG markets under the guidance of Team Leader. The role requires a strong teamplayer mindset, with active collaboration across the trading desk to deliver collective portfolio outcomes.

What you'll be doing

The LNG Physical Trader supports physical LNG trading and portfolio optimisation activities across Asia, with a focus on the Asia Pacific region. A key aspect of the role is the identification, valuation, and management of price optionality embedded in physical LNG contracts, cargo timing, and destination flexibility.

You are expected to contribute to value creation through disciplined execution, market analysis, and optimisation of physical LNG positions, while building deeper commercial and market expertise. Moreover:

  • Trade spot and strip LNG cargoes for profit while generating bestinclass market insights.

  • Manage price risk and exposure across JKM, TTF, HH, JCC, Brentlinked LNG, and regional gas benchmarks using physical and derivative trades.

  • Optimize Shell's LNG portfolio in coordination with the Optimization Trading team.

  • Manage seasonal demand exposure and contract optionality within agreed strategies.

  • Identify and manage price optionality from contract structures, index linkages, timing, and destination flexibility.

  • Execute physical LNG cargo trades within delegated authorities and strategy guidelines.

  • Optimize LNG positions across supply, demand, shipping, and contractual flexibility.

  • Maintain and grow commercial relationships with assigned counterparties.

  • Coordinate with shipping and operations teams for safe, timely cargo execution and manage associated risks.

  • Provide market analysis and support negotiation, administration, and compliance for LNG contracts and portfolio performance targets.

What you bring

  • 2-5 years experience in LNG Trading role. Oil, gas, or energyrelated trading or strong commercial roles is a plus.

  • Native Japanese speaker and possess professionallevel English fluency due to responsibilities tied to the Japan market (understanding of Japanese LNG market structure, buyer behaviour, and contracting practices).

  • Solid knowledge of LNG supplydemand fundamentals and pricing mechanisms

  • Experience or strong interest in physical contracts, logistics, shipping interfaces and physical options management

  • Familiarity with ETRMS / trading systems (e.g. DEX/ ENDUR / Aligne) is a strong plus

  • Sound analytical skills with high numeracy and attention to detail

  • Strong communication and relationshipmanagement skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and reliably as part of a trading team, contributing constructively under pressure

  • Practical experience in managing price or a strong capability to develop these skills
