Linux Server Engineer

We are partnering with a company operating one of the world's largest hyperscale infrastructure environments.

They are seeking a Linux Server Engineer to support large-scale production infrastructure across data centre and colocation environments supporting globally distributed platforms. This is a hands-on infrastructure role combining Linux server troubleshooting, hardware operations, physical connectivity and production support within a highly available hyperscale environment.

You will work across Linux-based server infrastructure while coordinating with internal engineering teams, data centre technicians, vendors, ISPs and colocation providers to resolve infrastructure issues.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot Linux-based servers and supporting infrastructure within large-scale production environments
• Use Linux command-line tools for system diagnostics, log analysis, connectivity testing and fault isolation
• Perform server hardware break/fix activities across physical production infrastructure
• Troubleshoot hardware, cabling, optics, fibre and physical connectivity issues
• Support Layer 1 troubleshooting across server and network infrastructure
• Coordinate Smart Hands / Remote Hands teams and onsite technicians during incidents, maintenance and implementation activities
• Manage circuit MACDs including moves, adds, changes and disconnections
• Work with ISPs, colocation providers, hardware vendors and internal operations teams to resolve production issues
• Manage infrastructure requests, incidents, tickets and operational updates through internal systems and JIRA
• Maintain server, circuit, hardware and spares inventory and support regular infrastructure audits
• Execute planned maintenance activities in line with established MOPs, technical procedures and operational standards
• Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation and implementation reporting
• Support highly available production environments with a strong focus on uptime, reliability and process adherence

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience supporting Linux server environments
• Linux/Unix command-line troubleshooting experience, including system diagnostics, logs and connectivity troubleshooting
• Experience troubleshooting physical servers and hardware within production environments
• Understanding of server hardware, cabling, optics, fibre and physical connectivity
• Strong fault isolation and troubleshooting skills across Linux, hardware and infrastructure environments
• Experience working with ticketing platforms such as JIRA or similar
• Experience coordinating with hardware vendors, field engineers, Smart Hands teams, colocation providers and/or ISPs
• Experience following MOPs, operational procedures and technical implementation documentation
• Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple technical teams and external providers
• Comfortable working independently within fast-paced, large-scale production environments
