Linux Engineer

ROLE: SENIOR LINUX ENGINEER

We are seeking a skilled Linux Engineer to join our growing Infrastructure team. In this role, you will take ownership of maintaining and optimizing our Linux-based systems, ensuring they remain secure, reliable, and high‑performing. You will handle day‑to‑day operations, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to infrastructure automation and modernization initiatives.

This role requires extensive familiarity with Linux operating systems and may involve a high level of risk assessment and user support.

kEY FEATURES OF THE POSITION

Linux System Administration

• Install, configure, and manage Linux servers (mainly RHEL).
• Maintain system services, user management, filesystem setups, LVM, and OS patching.
• Perform system hardening aligned with security policies and best-practice benchmarks.

Monitoring & Performance Optimization

• Monitor system health using tools like Tivoli, Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, or Zabbix.
• Troubleshoot performance issues related to CPU, memory, I/O, and network.
• Tune system parameters, service configurations, and kernel-level settings.

Automation & Scripting

• Automate operational tasks using Bash or Python.
• Use configuration management tools such as Puppet or Ansible.
• Contribute to CI/CD processes related to infrastructure automation.

Virtualization, Containers & Cloud

• Support virtualization platforms such as VMware or KVM.
• Work with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift) as needed.
• Assist in managing cloud-based Linux workloads in AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Networking & Security

• Configure and troubleshoot network services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NTP).
• Manage firewalls (iptables, nftables, firewalld) and apply OS-level security patches.
• Manage SSL certificates and SSH key access controls.

Troubleshooting & Support

• Provide L2/L3 support for production Linux incidents.
• Perform detailed root-cause analyses of system issues.
• Collaborate with application, DevOps, cloud, and network teams to resolve complex problems.

Documentation & Collaboration

• Maintain accurate technical documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Mentor junior engineers where needed.
• Participate in infrastructure projects and improvement initiatives.

. Ensure appropriate ethical and compliant behaviour within the area of responsibility by clear demonstration of appropriate values and behaviours including but not limited to standards on honesty and integrity, due care and diligence, fair dealing (treating customers fairly), management of conflicts of interest, competence and continuous development, adequate risk management, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS OF THEPOSITION

Systems Administration

. At least 5 years of enterprise experience in planning, implementing and administering Linux and Unix Servers systems in an enterprise environment.

. Knowledge of the different file systems format (CIFS, NFS, SAN/NAS level, and CAS)

. Backup recovery, Clustering and DR

. Experienced in programming with shell scripting and coding

. Assisting, troubleshooting and guiding users with any issues

. Strong problem research and resolution skills

. Performance monitoring and tuning background

. Strong background knowledge of Linux security

Additional Preferred Skill Requirements:

. Knowledge of the Enterprise Architecture standards

. Knowledge of the Systems Engineering Life Cycle methodology

. Able to work effectively in diverse environments with troubleshooting skills including areas such as storage, OS, patches, routing and switching networks

. Comfortable working in a dynamic environment, where use of and building multiple skill sets concurrently is required

. Exceptional intrapersonal and verbal/written communication skills

. Experience in Container Technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes will be and added advantage

. Experience with automation tools like Puppet or Ansible.

. Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

. Knowledge of high‑availability or clustering technologies.

Certifications such as:

o RHCSA /RHCE

o Linux Foundation Certified Engineer (LFCE)

o AWS/Azure cloud certifications
