Job Description

Eligibility Requirement

Applicants must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents. Employment pass or work pass sponsorship is not available for this role.

Overview
We are seeking a Legal & Regulatory Risk Adviser for our APAC Legal & Regulatory Risk team which covers Australia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. The role will report to the APAC Head of Legal & Regulatory Risk and work closely with the APAC Senior Risk Lawyer in Singapore.

This is an in-house legal, regulatory and professional-risk role within an international law firm. It combines ownership of Singapore regulatory processes with regional advisory, governance and risk-management work. It is not a fee-earning role and is not intended as a route back into private practice. It is also not a legal secretarial, HR or general administrative support position.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage Singapore legal-services regulatory processes, including lawyer and law-practice registrations, renewals, notifications, annual returns and regulatory records.

  • Prepare and submit LSRA Certificates of Registration and related eServices applications.

  • Monitor regulatory conditions, filing deadlines, lawyer ratios and registration status.

  • Research and apply requirements issued by the LSRA, MinLaw, SILE and other relevant authorities, escalating higher-risk matters where appropriate.

  • Coordinate regulatory enquiries, reviews and audits, and prepare correspondence and first drafts of submissions.

  • Maintain SOPs, compliance registers and improve relevant policies, procedures, guidance and templates.

  • Support professional indemnity insurance, governance matters, lateral hires, operating-model changes and other APAC regulatory projects.

  • Prepare practical briefings, training and management updates, and work with internal and external stakeholders to complete agreed actions.

Candidate profile

We welcome applications from:

  • A junior lawyer with approximately 2-4 years of post-qualification or equivalent experience who is interested in a long-term in-house legal-risk career or

  • A legal or regulatory risk professional with a law degree and approximately 3-6 years of relevant experience in a law firm, professional-services firm, regulator or in-house function.

Admission in Singapore or another common-law or a civil law jurisdiction is advantageous but not essential. A current practising certificate is not required.

Required experience and capabilities

  • A law degree and relevant legal, regulatory, compliance or governance experience.

  • Ability to interpret legislation, rules and regulatory guidance and translate them into practical requirements.

  • Experience with regulatory filings, professional registrations or other deadline-driven compliance processes.

  • Strong drafting, judgement, organisation and stakeholder-management skills.

  • A practical approach and willingness to handle both advisory work and detailed regulatory implementation.

  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills. Experience with compliance trackers, dashboards or reporting tools is useful.

Experience that would be advantageous

  • Experience in the internal risk, regulatory, independence, quality or general counsel function of a law firm or other professional services organisation.

  • Knowledge of Singapore legal-services regulation, LSRA or SILE processes, or experience of APAC regulatory and professional-risk matters.

  • Working knowledge of Chinese (written and spoken) would be advantageous, given the role's support for Greater China.

  • Experience working across jurisdictions and with colleagues from different business functions and cultural backgrounds.

Development and scope

Role-specific training will be provided. Relevant advanced legal or compliance training may also be supported for a candidate who is not professionally qualified as a lawyer. The role offers meaningful ownership, regional exposure and the opportunity to develop as a specialist in legal, regulatory and professional risk within an international law firm.

What we offer

  • A varied in-house legal and regulatory risk role with direct exposure to senior risk and business stakeholders in APAC and globally.

  • Ownership of core Singapore regulatory processes together with participation in broader APAC regulatory matters and projects.

  • A long-term specialist career path in legal risk, regulation, governance and compliance.

  • A collaborative working environment.
