Job Description
About the Role
Our client is a well-established single-family office operating across multiple jurisdictions, managing a sophisticated portfolio of investments, corporate structures, and wealth planning activities. This role functions as the principal's dedicated Legal Counsel, serving as the primary legal gatekeeper responsible for identifying, ringfencing, and managing legal risk across the organisation. The position offers a rare opportunity to work in close proximity to decision-makers on a diverse and intellectually stimulating range of legal matters spanning corporate governance, cross-border planning, and major transactions. It is an excellent fit for a commercially minded lawyer who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and who values breadth of exposure over narrow specialisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of legal oversight for the principal, identifying and managing legal risk while balancing business objectives against risk considerations across all major activities
- Lead wealth structuring and corporate governance matters, including coordination with external professional service providers on entity establishment and ongoing governance affairs
- Draft and review preliminary legal documents and agreements; escalate and manage complex matters with the support of external legal counsel where required
- Coordinate cross-border residency planning and tax-related matters, liaising with external private legal advisors, tax specialists, and other professional advisors to drive timely resolution
- Manage contract lifecycle for significant transactions, investment activities, and financing arrangements, including preparation and review of engagement letters and related legal documentation
- Maintain and update a comprehensive matter tracker and log to monitor ongoing legal and compliance matters, ensuring all items are completed within required timelines
- Oversee the maintenance of family office-related legal documents and multi-jurisdictional entity structures, ensuring accuracy and currency at all times
- Coordinate across internal stakeholders and external counsel to ensure cohesive legal support and clear communication on all active matters
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) as a qualified lawyer; candidates from private practice or in-house backgrounds are equally welcome to apply
- Strong Mandarin language proficiency (spoken and written) is required, as the role involves regular communication with Mandarin-speaking principals and counterparties across the region
- Demonstrated ability to think quickly, reason logically, and communicate complex legal issues clearly and concisely — intellectual sharpness and learning agility are prioritised over directly relevant subject-matter experience
- Solid understanding of corporate governance, contract management, and general commercial legal matters; prior specialist experience in regulatory affairs or cross-border tax is not required
- Experience in wealth structuring, multi-jurisdictional legal coordination, or family office environments (is a bonus)
- Proven ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously, exercise sound judgment independently, and operate effectively in a lean, high-trust environment
If you are passionate about technology and meet the above requirements, please don't hesitate to apply. Please note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Appreciate your understanding. Data provided is for recruitment purposes only.
