Legal Counsel (Shipping)

We are partnering with a well-established maritime organisation, Hong Lam Marine, to appoint a Legal Counsel to support its business operations. This role sits close to senior leadership and offers broad exposure across legal, corporate secretarial, and insurance matters within the shipping industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice directly to the Chief Executive and internal stakeholders on a wide range of commercial and operational matters

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, ensuring alignment with business objectives and risk mitigation

• Handle corporate secretarial matters, including governance and compliance requirements

• Manage all insurance-related matters, including:

  • Policy renewals and documentation

  • Claims handling and coordination

  • Liaising with P&I Clubs, H&M insurers, and claims adjusters

• Work closely with internal teams during incidents/claims and coordinate with external legal counsel when required

• Provide practical, business-oriented legal solutions in a dynamic maritime environment

Requirements

• Law degree from a recognised university

• Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience

• Prior experience in the marine/shipping industry is essential

• Familiarity with corporate secretarial work and marine insurance (P&I / H&M)

• Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills

• Able to work independently and engage senior stakeholders confidently
