Job Description

Position Overview: As a Legal Counsel, you will provide comprehensive legal support to ensure the company's activities and game products comply with applicable laws, while also uphold and enforce internal company policies. You will work closely with various departments to minimise legal risks and protect the company's interests in a dynamic and evolving gaming industry.

Commercial Legal Support:

. Support commercial legal needs, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts with vendors, partners, and other stakeholders.

. Provide legal advice on upcoming commercial strategies and initiatives.

. Translate legal requirements into actionable, business-friendly policies that integrate seamlessly into product development, marketing, and operations.

Intellectual Property:

. Provide advice on intellectual property matters, including innovations and strategies that require IP protection.

. Oversee agreements involving IP licensing and commercialization.

Risk Mitigation:

. Establish proactive measures to manage and mitigate data-related and other commercial risks.

. Ensure operational data handling, governance, and contractual arrangements are robust, reducing exposure to legal and reputational risks.

. Translate legal requirements into actionable, business-friendly policies that integrate seamlessly into product development, marketing, and operations.

Data Compliance Leadership:

. Develop and implement a scalable data compliance (including data privacy and protection) strategy and framework in one region, (one of: Japan and Korea, USA or EU).

. Lead external local legal resources on execution of strategy and framework to ensure compliance and the highest standard.

. Ensure compliance with international data laws and advise stakeholders on regulatory developments.

Local Entity Compliance:

. Ensure that all local legal entities operate in full compliance with the laws and regulations of the jurisdictions in which they are registered or operate.

. Oversee the maintenance of local entity registration, reporting, and other statutory obligations.

. Provide guidance and counsel to local teams on governance, regulatory reporting, and compliance with local labor, tax, and corporate laws.

. Coordinate with local legal teams and external counsel to ensure compliance with region-specific regulatory requirements, including business licenses, corporate filings, and corporate governance.

. Monitor changes in local laws and regulations, ensuring timely updates and compliance adjustments across all local entities.

Requirements:

. Bachelor's degree in law from a reputable law school.

. 5-10 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a legal role.

. Experience with commercial contracts. Excellent drafting skills, with a keen attention to detail.

. Experience on data privacy, data protection, and data compliance, with additional experience in commercial legal work.

. Well-versed in privacy laws across one or more jurisdictions: the US, EU, Japan, and Korea.

. Experience with IP law is an advantage.

. Resourceful and capable of managing big-picture strategies while drilling into granular details as needed.

. Effective in utilizing and guiding overseas resources, including external counsel.

. Fluency in both English and Mandarin in order to liaise with Mandarin-speaking counterparts.
