Legal Counsel - Commodities and Shipping

A global independent commodity trading company, acting as a critical link in the global supply chain. Their operations involve the complex logistics and financing of oil, petroleum products, metals, minerals, power, and carbon. This is a fast-paced, high-stakes environment where commercial agility and risk management are paramount.

Main Purpose

As Legal Counsel, you will provide critical legal oversight for transactional and regulatory matters across the entire APAC portfolio. You will act as the primary legal partner for banking and structured trade finance, ensuring our commercial activities are supported by clear, succinct, and practical legal advice.

Key Responsibilities

Transactional Excellence: Advise on and draft documentation for structured trade finance, including prepayments, banking facilities, and complex sale and purchase contracts.

Regulatory Guidance:Navigate the evolving financial and commercial regulatory landscapes across multiple APAC jurisdictions.

Risk Mitigation:Proactively identify legal risks and develop effective strategies to protect the business while meeting commercial imperatives.

Global Collaboration: Work as a vital member of a wider Global Legal Team to maintain high standards of legal service.

Stakeholder Management:Manage relationships with external legal counsel and provide internal training to staff on legal and compliance policies.

Key Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

• Between 7 and 10 years PQE in either structured or trade finance or disputes/arbitration
• Excellence in commodities and shipping knowledge is essential
• Experience gained from private practice or a relevant in-house background is ideal
• You must be self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently under tight time constraints.
