Job Description
We are partnering with a leading technology and digital commerce platform to appoint a Legal Counsel specialising in commercial litigation and disputes.
Joining an established legal team, the successful candidate will advise the business on a broad range of complex commercial disputes, contentious matters and litigation risk arising from a fast-moving and highly scaled business.
We are particularly interested in high-calibre litigators with outstanding academics and training from a top-tier disputes practice who are looking to build their career within a sophisticated in-house environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on a broad range of commercial litigation, disputes and contentious matters across the business.
- Manage complex and high-value disputes from initial assessment and strategy through to resolution.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to assess potential disputes and develop practical strategies to manage legal, commercial and reputational risk.
- Manage litigation proceedings, arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution where required.
- Instruct and manage external counsel across relevant jurisdictions.
- Advise on pre-litigation strategy, settlement negotiations and dispute avoidance.
- Review commercial arrangements and provide strategic input where there is heightened litigation or contentious risk.
- Partner closely with the wider legal team and senior business stakeholders on significant and sensitive matters.
- Support the development of internal processes and best practices relating to dispute management and risk mitigation.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer with approximately 8–9 years PQE. Exceptional candidates with slightly less experience will also be considered.
- Excellent academic credentials and strong technical legal capabilities.
- Substantial commercial litigation and dispute resolution experience gained within a top-tier international or leading disputes practice.
- Experience managing sophisticated, high-value and potentially multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes.
- Strong litigation strategy, drafting and analytical capabilities.
- Prior in-house experience is advantageous but not essential; strong private practice litigators looking to make their first move in-house are encouraged to apply.
- Commercially minded with the ability to move beyond technical legal analysis and provide clear, pragmatic and solutions-oriented advice.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise senior business leaders.
