Roles & Responsibilities
Job Purpose
The Lead Structural Designer is responsible for leading and delivering all structural design and drafting activities for FPSO projects, ensuring designs are safe, constructible, and compliant with project specifications, class rules, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Structural Design Leadership
- Lead and supervise structural designers and draftsmen for FPSO topsides and hull-related works.
- Plan, assign, and review structural design and drafting deliverables to meet project schedule and quality requirements.
- Ensure consistency and standardisation of structural drawings across the project.
Design & Drafting Execution
- Develop and review structural layouts, general arrangements, steel detailing, and fabrication drawings.
- Prepare and check 3D structural models using PDMS / E3D / AVEVA and 2D drawings using AutoCAD.
- Coordinate structural interfaces with piping, equipment, EIT, HVAC, and marine disciplines.
- Support design changes and ensure timely updates to drawings and models.
Coordination & Interface Management
- Participate in design review meetings, model reviews, and constructability reviews.
- Interface with engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
- Clarify technical queries from site, fabrication yards, and subcontractors.
Standards & Compliance
- Ensure structural designs comply with:
- Project specifications
- Class requirements (ABS, DNV, BV, LR, etc.)
- Industry codes and standards
- Support structural checks related to load paths, lifting points, and module integration (engineering input where required).
Site & Yard Support
- Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, and integration phases.
- Review and respond to site queries, NCRs, and design change requests.
- Support as-built drawings and project close-out documentation.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Civil / Structural / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 10–15 years experience in structural design, with at least 5 years in FPSO or offshore oil & gas projects.
- Proven experience leading structural design teams in EPC or yard environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with PDMS / E3D (AVEVA) and AutoCAD.
- Good knowledge of offshore structural systems (topsides, modules, supports, hull connections).
- Familiar with class and regulatory requirements for offshore structures.
- Strong coordination, communication, and leadership skills.
