Job Overview
The Lead Piping Layout Engineer is responsible for providing technical guidance and leadership in the development and optimization of piping and equipment layouts for FPSO topside facilities. The role involves reviewing 3D models, ensuring design functionality, safety, operability, and constructability, and supporting the piping team through all project phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Review 3D models, Equipment GA, and Piping GA drawings to ensure layouts are functional (e.g., correct slopes, no pockets, sufficient straight run lengths), safe, and practical for operations, maintenance, and material handling.
- Provide guidance to the piping and 3D model teams to enhance design efficiency and compliance with project standards.
- Generate and optimize the Topside Plot Plan in collaboration with the piping team.
- Optimize pipe routing and layout, considering piping stress, efficient material use, and minimal pipe length.
- Conduct quality assurance checks for IFC (Issued for Construction) deliverables, including isometrics and pipe support drawings.
- Participate in and contribute to 3D model reviews to ensure integration and alignment across disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with engineering best practices, safety regulations, and project specifications.
- Provide input based on hands-on field experience to improve design for construction, commissioning, and operations.
- Tenaciously guide and support the Owner's Engineering (OCE) team on layout decisions and design development.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in oil & gas EPCI projects.
- At least 7 consecutive years of experience in EPCI projects with reputable engineering companies.
- Minimum of 2 FPSO project experiences required.
- Field experience in construction, commissioning, or operation & maintenance of offshore facilities is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of offshore engineering standards, piping stress considerations, and constructability best practices.
- Proactive communicator with strong leadership and coordination skills.
