LCM Associate Debt Markets APAC

As part of Global Capital Markets (CMG) APAC, Debt Markets (DM) includes Loan Capital Markets (LCM), Debt Capital Markets (DCM) and Fund Financing Group(FFG).

The LCM team, to which this role belongs, is in charge of both the LCM and FFG businesses in APAC, and is hence responsible for IG loans, leveraged loans and fund financing, and is a contributor to credit NAV financings. The LCM team originates, structures, arranges and executes as underwriter and/or lender a wide range of financing solutions across the credit spectrum and capital structure, across a wide array of situations and across sectors and industries, ranging from vanilla loans to complex/structured transactions, in particular event-driven transaction / acquisitions, across Asia-Pacific, with clients and prospects of BNPP across the Asia Pacific region, with APAC and MNC corporates, financial sponsors (private equity, private credit, infrastructure funds, etc) promoters and financial institutions.

Key loan structures and situations include corporate syndicated, club or bilateral loans (bridge loans or term loans) for IG / corporate borrowers, whether as part of acquisitions/specific events or for on-going financing and refinancing needs, loans financing LBOs and other investments by private equity investors, and financings for financial sponsors at the fund level such as capital call facilities and NAV facilities. While BNP typically holds part of the loans, the model is essentially predicated on the underwriting and distribution of loans in primary or post-closing through various channels such as secondary sales, insurance, securitizations, etc.

The LCM team collaborates closely with other teams, in particular Corporate, MNC and Financial Sponsors Coverage, Loan Syndicate, ECM, DCM and M&A, GCMEMEA/US, Global markets, Wealth Management, Transaction Banking and other regional or global product lines, and fosters cross-collaboration, integrated solutions and cross-sell with other BNP teams in APAC and other regions.

Position Purpose

The role is, as a primary responsibility, to support senior LCM team members in the origination, structuring, arranging and execution of all loan transactions handled by Loan Capital markets (LCM) across the Asia Pacific region, including corporate IG and non-IG loans, leveraged loans / LBOs, fund level financings and promoter loans, throughout the entire loan cycle, from the initial stages of a transaction until closing and completion of distribution, as well as, as a contributor, to support other relevant teams to ensure a successful closing of these transactions (including Loan Syndicate as it relates to underwriting and distribution and other teams as relevant), and, as and when required, in conjunction with Credit Portfolio Management (CPM), during the life of the loan until full repayment.

Responsibilities

Direct Responsibilities:

• Support LCM senior originators (VPs, Directors, MDs) in the origination of loans, including idea generation, prospect identification, initial credit/debt capacity analysis, pitch book preparation, etc
• Contribute to structuring, termsheet drafting/negotiations and financing documentation reviews/negotiations
• Credit analysis including financial modeling, riskanalysis, financial analysis, legal/structure analysis, etc
• Draft initial credit memos (screening memos, credit applications andother internal papers) on transactions, running of pricing model, etc under thesupervision of a senior team member
• Be responsible for and coordinate all closing and funding related tasks and liaise with other internal teams e.g. CTCM, KYC, 3C, ALM, Finance, Compliance, RMs on completing the internal administrative process for credit approval and closing/funding
• Liaison with clients/external parties and other GCM/BNP teams as and when required, especially Corporate and Financial Sponsors Coverage, Loan Syndicate, DCM, ECM, M&A, GM, Risk, etc
• Attend and contribute regional and global calls diligently
• Support on maintaining internal databases, e.g. pipeline, forecasts/budgets, tombstones, deal lists, etc
• Be the first line of defense on Risk/Credit/Compliance
• Impeccable conduct and compliance with all applicable internal policies and external regulations
• Other tasks as required or defined from time to time

Contributing responsibilities:

• Support on cross selling other banking services to clients, especially Global Markets, DCM, M&A, ECM and Transaction Banking
• Support CPM on portfolio /existing files as required for waivers/amendments, annual reviews and restructuring if any
• Contribute to the achievement of LCM's yearly budget

Reporting:

• Permanent direct reporting to relevant MD in SG or HK
• Deal by deal reporting to relevant senior team members on specific transaction

Experience and Qualifications required

• Bachelor's degree
• 3-5 years work experience in a leading financial institution in structured finance, preferably leverage finance
• Demonstrated Financial modelling, financial analysis and risk analysis skills
• Demonstrated good understanding of financial structures and loan documentation
