Laboratory Technician - Biology (FIXED TERM CONTRACT)

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Laboratory Technician will handle the following duties under the supervision of the Vice Principal:

• Preparing Secondary School students practical courses (TP) for the Biology (SVT) teachers in the specified laboratory: prepare the required products, organize the trolley with equipment, and set up the materials and products on the students or teachers workbenches.

• After practical courses: tidy and clean the equipment used by students and/or teachers, return it to the laboratory, and handle chemical products if needed.

• Maintaining and managing the stocks of equipment and products required to conduct the experiments: update the list of available equipment and products, inventory broken or defective materials, expired or insufficient products, and carry out minor repairs.

• Assisting the Laboratory Manager in managing purchases (equipment and products): request quotes from local suppliers, check materials and products upon receipt of the order, and buy common-use products in stores for practical courses.

• Ensuring compliance with safety rules in laboratories.

• Carrying out educational projects and testing for their smooth functioning.

• Developing and updating worksheets for the practical courses.

• Ensuring cleanliness of workbenches and the laboratory.

• Obligatory presence: one week after the end of the school year and one week before the start of the school year; presence required from 7:30 AM Monday to Friday.

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Polytechnic Diploma in Biology or General with significant experience in this field

• Good knowledge of biology required and geology desired

• Experience in a laboratory appreciated

• Good command of English language

• Ability to communicate in French to support interactions with French-speaking students, staff and materials used in the school environment

• Meticulous, organized, autonomous, practical, capable of initiative and adaptation

• Able to work accurately and methodically within a team

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Full-time, 42 hours per week

• According to the Administrative and Educational Staff Salary Grid

• Holidays correspond to school vacations, minus one week after the end of the courses and one week before the start

• Fixed term contract to cover maternity leave (Starting mid-May to the first of July)

RESPONSABILITES

Le Technicien de laboratoire assurera les missions suivantes sous la supervision du Proviseur adjoint :

• Prparer les Travaux Pratiques (TP) des lves du secondaire pour les professeurs de Sciences et Vie de la Terre : prparer les produits ncessaires, organiser le chariot avec le matriel et installer sur les paillasses des lves et/ou du professeur le matriel et les produits.

• Aprs le TP : remettre le matriel utilis par les lves et/ou le professeur sur le chariot, nettoyer le matriel et le ranger dans le laboratoire, traiter les produits chimiques au besoin.

• Grer le matriel et les produits : mettre jour la liste du matriel et des produits disponibles au laboratoire, inventorier le matriel cass ou dfectueux, les produits prims ou en quantits insuffisantes, effectuer les petites rparations.

• Assister le Responsable du Laboratoire dans la gestion des achats (matriel et produits) : demander des devis auprs des fournisseurs locaux, contrler le matriel et les produits rception de la commande, acheter en magasin les produits d'usage courant pour la ralisation des travaux pratiques.

• Veiller au respect des rgles de scurit dans le laboratoire.

• Raliser les projets ducatifs et tester leur bon fonctionnement.

• Dvelopper et mettre jour les fiches des travaux pratiques.

• Veiller la propret des paillasses et du laboratoire.

• Prsence obligatoire : une semaine aprs la fin de l'anne scolaire et une semaine avant le dbut de l'anne scolaire ; prsence partir de 7h30 du lundi au vendredi.

• Assister les enseignants si ncessaire durant les squences des travaux pratiques.

COMPETENCES, APTITUDES, FORMATION REQUISES

• Baccalaurat + 2 ou quivalent / Polytechnic Diploma in Biology or General with significant experience in this field

• Connaissances en biologie obligatoires et en gologie souhaites / Good knowledge of biology required and geology desired

• Exprience en laboratoire apprcie / Experience in a laboratory appreciated

• Matrise de l'anglais obligatoire / Good command of English language

• Capacit communiquer en franais afin de faciliter les interactions avec des lves, du personnel et l'utilisation de ressources pdagogiques en franais dans l'environnement scolaire

• Rigueur, sens de l'organisation, autonomie, sens pratique, initiative et capacit d'adaptation requises / Meticulous, organized, autonomous, practical, capable of initiative and adaptation

• Capacit travailler avec prcision et mthode au sein d'une quipe / Able to work accurately and methodically within a team

CONDITIONS DE TRAVAIL

• Temps plein de 42 H hebdomadaires

• Grille des personnels Administratifs et Educatifs

• Congs correspondant aux vacances scolaires, moins une semaine aprs la fin des cours et une semaine avant la rentre

• CDD pour remplacer un cong maternit (de mi-Mai jusqu'au 1er Juillet).
