Lab technician (Internship) - Translational Pharmacology Unit
Animal Husbandry (80%) | Research Support (20%)

Role Overview

The Animal Facility (AF) Intern supports the daily operations of the animal facility and wash area, with a strong emphasis on animal welfare, husbandry, and facility hygiene. The intern will also experience training of basic in vivo experimental procedures under supervision of research staff. This role offers handson exposure to laboratory animal care, facility operations, and preclinical research in a regulated environment.

The intern will rotate between the Animal Facility in the morning and the Wash Area in the afternoon, with work schedules adjusted based on operational needs and ongoing experiments.

Job Scope:

Daily Routine work

  • Perform daily care and monitoring of animal health and welfare, including observation and documentation of clinical conditions, and to promptly report abnormalities or injuries in accordance with established animal welfare standards.
  • To provide basic nursing care to laboratory animals as required.
  • To perform daily routine cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of animal holding areas and equipment in compliance with approved hygiene and operational standards.
  • Support and perform the preparation, packing, sterilization, and sanitization of animal housing materials, laboratory instruments, and consumables, ensuring compliance with animal facility hygiene, biosecurity, and sterilization protocols.
  • To complete and maintain all required husbandry records and inventory documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Research Support (Supervised)

  • Provide support for routine animal study procedures, including but not limited to basic measurements, sample collection assistance, procedural support.

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate task and sterilization records, participate in SOP training, keep training documentation up to date.

Requirements:

Essential

  • Interest in laboratory animal care, biomedical research, or life sciences
  • Willingness to perform handson husbandry and cleaning tasks
  • Ability to follow SOPs and maintain accurate records
  • Responsible, detailoriented, and safetyconscious
  • Comfortable working with animals (mice and rabbits)

Preferred

  • Background in Life Sciences, Biomedical Science, or related fields
  • RCULA certification (or willingness to obtain during internship)
  • Prior exposure to animal facilities or laboratory environments
