Key Responsibilities:
- Offer expert advice and consultancy services on materials characterization techniques to assist staff and students with their research and undergraduate teaching endeavors.
- Design and deliver short courses or workshops focusing on materials characterization and testing for staff and students as well as industry partners.
- Partner with faculty members and researchers on their projects and conduct hands-on sample characterization using the equipment available in the service labs.
- Engage in continuous professional development by attending workshops, seminars, webinars, and engaging in self-learning activities to enhance technical skills and knowledge in materials characterization techniques, staying current with developments and trends in the field.
- Provide technical support and equipment maintenance in teaching and research laboratories.
- Provide thorough equipment training and offer technical assistance to both staff and students regarding equipment operation, safety protocols and best laboratory practices.
- Conduct regular equipment inspection, maintenance, and calibration.
- Coordinate equipment repairs and servicing, resolve technical issues, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and implement corrective actions.
- Review and improve the quality of equipment training and incorporate new ideas or technology to produce training materials for all stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, propose enhancements to laboratory procedures, protocols and workflows.
- Provide administrative support to manage the daily operation of teaching and research laboratories.
- Perform routine housekeeping, ensuring safety, cleanliness and organization of lab space.
- Ensure adequate supply of laboratory consumables and spares parts for lab operations.
- Perform administrative tasks of budgeting, purchasing (equipment, consumable etc), record-keeping and data management related to laboratory activities.
- Liaise with vendors for service, maintenance, purchasing and other related matters.
- Provide service and support to staff and students for laboratory usage.
- Develop and maintain records and documentation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Safe Work Procedure (SWP), Risk Assignment (RA) & Contractor Management.
- Perform routine safety check and inspection to maintain good housekeeping and ensure compliance to relevant regulations and guidelines.
- Perform checking of safety equipment (eyewash station, emergency shower, spill kit, first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, etc.) to ensure compliance to safety regulations.
- Follow up on non-compliant safety inspection findings and ensure the corrective actions are rectified.
- Provide support and assistance to the research focus lab (fault reporting, asset write-off, facility requests, etc.
Requirements:
- A Degree in Chemistry / Materials Science & Engineering / Chemical Engineering / Equivalent
- Advantage if have experiences such as equipment usage experience, SOP, Risk Assessment, lab setting and audit checks.
