Junior Tooling Engineer

Metalcool is a Singapore precision engineering company specialising in customised cutting tools for the aerospace and general engineering industries.

We are looking for a Junior Tooling Engineer to support the design and manufacture of precision cutting tools through CNC programming, engineering drawing generation and production documentation.

At Metalcool, the CNC program is used to define the cutting-tool geometry and forms the basis for generating the corresponding 2D product drawing. The successful candidate must therefore be comfortable working with both CNC programming logic and engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modify CNC tool-grinding programs according to customer and manufacturing requirements.
• Generate and verify 2D product drawings from CNC programs.
• Prepare or update supporting 3D models and CAD information where required.
• Modify existing programs and drawings for repeat manufacture and regrinding.
• Check dimensions, tolerances and tool geometry before submitting work for verification.
• Prepare work orders and engineering documentation required for Production.
• Maintain proper revision control of CNC programs, drawings and related files.
• Ensure programs, drawings and manufacturing documentation are consistent before release.
• Work with Production to clarify program, drawing and tooling requirements.
• Support first-piece manufacture for new or modified tools.
• Review production or inspection issues and make controlled amendments where required.
• Support technical troubleshooting and process improvement as experience develops.

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Precision, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Good understanding of dimensions, tolerances and geometry.
• Some exposure to CNC programming, CAM programming, CNC machining or related manufacturing processes.
• Comfortable learning specialised CNC tool-grinding software.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Able to work systematically and communicate effectively with Engineering and Production colleagues.

Experience with CAD/CAM, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CNC machining, ANCA, Walter or cutting-tool manufacture would be advantageous but is not required. Training in our specialised tooling processes and software will be provided.
