About the role:

As a journalist/correspondent on The Straits Times politics team, you will develop, write and produce stories, long-form features and other forms of content with a focus on local politics and national policy.

You will delve into issues that gain political traction, are debated in Parliament and are important to the lives of everyday Singaporeans. You will have a front-row seat to changes in public policy and the evolution of party politics in Singapore. Expect to report, track, and interpret the latest developments for readers across ST's different platforms.

You should have strong news sense and judgment, the ability to bring in exclusive stories, to spot and delve into trends, and to both work independently and as part of a team. You should also be keen to spend time on the ground, listening to how Singaporeans feel and cultivating your networks. In addition, you should be an engaging, fast and organised writer who can piece together stories in a compelling way to inform our readers.

Your work will appear online and in print, may also take the form of digital content, such as videos, interactive graphics, podcasts and other visual storytelling formats.

Job Requirements

• Degree from a recognised university, with a strong interest in politics and at least three years in journalism
• Candidates with more relevant experience may be considered for a more senior role
• Experience in political coverage is a plus but not a prerequisite
• Excellent command of English and strong writing skills
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Enthusiasm, independence, resourcefulness, and the ability to work under pressure
• Strong news sense, with a good understanding of what works for an online and mobile readership as well as surfing patterns
• Willingness to be rostered for work on weekends and public holidays
