Job Description

We are seeking a Java Technical Lead who is deeply strong in system design, design patterns, and backend architecture. You will own the technical direction of critical backend services, define architectural standards, and lead a team of engineers to build scalable, resilient, and high-performance systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end system design and architecture for key backend services and platforms.
  • Define and drive system architecture decisions: service boundaries, decomposition strategies, integration patterns, and data models.
  • Apply and institutionalize design patterns and architectural styles (layered, hexagonal, DDD, CQRS, event-driven, etc.).
  • Lead design and implementation of scalable microservices, APIs, and event-driven systems (REST/gRPC/GraphQL as needed).
  • Create and maintain design documents, architecture diagrams, sequence diagrams, and API contracts.
  • Conduct rigorous design reviews and code reviews; ensure adherence to architectural and coding standards.
  • Mentor senior, mid, and junior engineers on clean design, modularity, performance, and reliability.
  • Partner with product, frontend, QA, DevOps, and SRE to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Drive non-functional requirements: scalability, latency, throughput, availability, resilience, observability, and security.
  • Define technology standards, evaluate new tools/frameworks, and contribute to the long-term architecture roadmap.
  • Lead incident analysis and post-mortems from an architectural and system-design perspective.

Must-Have Skills

  • 12+ years of strong Java backend development experience; 2+ years in a lead / tech lead / architect capacity.
  • Expert-level understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, and system design principles.
  • Proven track record of designing large-scale distributed systems and microservices architectures.
  • Deep expertise with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Cloud, Spring Data, Spring Security, etc.).
  • Strong command of data structures & algorithms and their impact on system performance and design choices.
  • Extensive experience in API design (REST; gRPC/GraphQL is a plus) and service-to-service communication.
  • Solid knowledge of databases (SQL/NoSQL), indexing, transactions, caching (Redis, etc.), and messaging (Kafka/RabbitMQ/SQS).
  • Hands-on with concurrency, async processing, and performance tuning in Java.
  • Ability to produce clear design docs, architecture diagrams, and sequence diagrams and walk teams through them.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Good-to-Have

  • Experience with domain-driven design (DDD), event sourcing, or CQRS in production systems.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and cloud-native patterns (serverless, containers, Kubernetes).
  • Background in high-scale domains: fintech, payments, trading, BFSI, or large-scale SaaS.
  • Experience setting up or contributing to architecture councils, design guilds, or internal tech forums.
  • Familiarity with observability stacks (metrics, logging, tracing) and SRE practices.
