Overview
As part of Oldendorff's 20-person global research team, this role will focus on supply and demand analysis of the global iron ore and steel markets, with additional exposure to other metals and ferrous products such as bauxite and manganese ore. The role works closely with the Head of Global Steel Raw Materials, freight traders, and fellow analysts to prepare and communicate short- to long-term forecasts that support internal commercial strategy.
Tasks:
- Conduct supply and demand analysis of the global iron ore and steel and bauxite markets.
- Support the desk head and freight teams in developing business strategy through detailed market analysis.
- Develop and maintain databases, forecast models, and reports to support formulation and communication of market views.
- Communicate industry updates and provide intelligence on the global steel sector and related policies.
- Leverage primary sources such as industry contacts and internal commercial teams for insights.
Requirements:
- Up to 5 years working experience, preferably in iron ore, bauxite or steel related research or trading.
- Bachelor's degree in Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or related fields.
- Strong skills in Excel and PowerPoint knowledge of SQL and VBA is a plus.
- Team player with strong communication skills, detail-oriented, resourceful, and proactive.
- Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and work independently with initiative.
- Willingness to travel, especially to China.
- Proficiency in Mandarin to liaise with Mandarin-speaking industry contacts and review market information from China
