Reporting to the Senior Investment Director, Southeast Asia, this position is responsible for leading and managing projects designed to support and attract foreign direct investment into the state of Victoria and providing bespoke client advisory services across a range of key industry sectors including technology and innovation food and agriculture renewable energy health and advanced manufacturing. This role requires an extensive background in leading investment attraction, together with a detailed understanding of the business investment environment as it relates to our key markets across the region in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. This position will require a demonstrated understanding of opportunities for Victoria to attract international investment. The position will engage with companies across a wide range of areas however strong sectoral knowledge in one of the priority sectors across technology and innovation food and agriculture renewable energy health and advanced manufacturing is highly desirable.
Key Accountabilities
1. Lead the development and execution of FDI attraction strategies and find and convert new FDI leads to achieve foreign direct investment KPIs in collaboration with the Senior Investment Director, Southeast Asia and the Invest Victoria team based in Melbourne, Australia.
2. Identify and develop a portfolio of new potential investors across the Southeast Asia region (in priority markets of Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam) by research driven target selection and pro-active marketing campaigns.
3. In consultation with the Senior Investment Director, Southeast Asia and the Invest Victoria team based in Melbourne, build on existing relationships and create new connections with key SEA-based executives of corporations that already have significant investments in Australia. 4. Plan and deliver on identified lead generation initiatives including events across the region, and proactively identify new lead generation opportunities across the priority markets of Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
5. Manage the site visits of potential investors to Victoria in cooperation with other Victorian Government staff and assistance regarding market entry.
6. Maintain an up-to-date FDI pipeline using the department's CRM software and ensure that all clients are serviced professionally and in a timely manner.
7. Undertake other tasks as directed by the Commissioner for Victoria and Deputy Commissioner.
Key Selection Criteria
1. Significant experience and good working knowledge of the global business investment environment (in particular as it relates to Southeast Asia) and the major drivers and challenges which impact investment attraction strategies to Victoria. In particular, knowledge of the technology business ecosystem in SEA and Australia including knowledge of capital raising and the growth cycles of startups and scaleups.
2. Strong background in investment attraction, business development, lead generation and a proven ability to proactively identify senior executives of commercial organisations, understand their investment decisionmaking process, international investment protocols and have the ability to influence these processes.
3. Excellent understanding of the Victorian and Australian business environment, including key industry, economic and socio-political drivers, and proven knowledge of Victoria's international competitive advantages.
4. Demonstrated capacity to provide advice in relation to complex investment projects and promote Victoria as an investment location.
5. Superior written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make presentations at senior levels, successfully conduct commercial/financial negotiations and represent the Government of Victoria.
Desired Experience/Qualifications The following experience and skills are highly desirable: . a relevant tertiary qualification from a recognised institute . experience in a regional business development role, particularly in SEA . excellent understanding of the Victorian and Australian environment, in particular experience working in Australia or with Australian-based organisations
