Job Description

As our in-house Investigations Counsel - Asia Pacific and Japan, you will be responsible for managing, overseeing, conducting, and providing legal guidance on government investigations, as well as investigating allegations of violations of HPE's Standards of Business Conduct (SBC).

You will report to the Director of Investigations for Asia Pacific and Japan in HPE's Ethics & Compliance Office (ECO) and will be part of a global team managing external and internal investigations throughout the company.

You will act as a crucial legal advisor to HPE internal clients or company lawyers, and you will recommend solutions that help address HPE clients objectives and represent HPE before industry policy-setting organisations, government agencies, and other regulatory bodies.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct complex internal and external investigations on behalf of HPE's global SBC program and associated internal partners.

  • Draft investigation reports for executive-level review and law enforcement engagement throughout the region.

  • Be responsible for delivery on program goals and timelines within the regional SBC program.

  • Establish and promote effective interregional investigation, operational cooperation, information sharing and coordination channels. Manage high volume & complex caseloads with little oversight.

  • Provide support to the Director of Investigations for APJ and to other HPE partners (including but not limited to country and regional SBC teams, Legal, Internal Audit and IT Security) on SBC investigations.

  • Drive the development of legal strategies by providing specialised legal expertise.

  • Share growing expertise with other team members and with clients through both informal and formal training and mentoring.

  • Identify and resolve complex legal issues requiring in-depth knowledge and judgment.

  • Maintain and utilise information from available incident reporting, information management systems, and intelligence databases to maintain a detailed and accurate record of investigative activity.

  • Will be required to travel within the region and possibly elsewhere, in pursuance of objectives, sometimes at short notice.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Must have an advanced university degree in Law.

  • Admitted to practice law anywhere in the world or eligible to be re-admitted.

  • Possess at least 8 years of legal experience at a law firm, in-house, or at a government law enforcement agency or prosecuting authority.

  • Have at least 5 years of hands-on investigations, compliance and ethics experience, including but not restricted to data collation and analysis, investigations management, interviewing of witnesses and subjects, intelligence database and information systems management, and writing investigation reports.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Self-motivated and able to act independently, and responsibly demonstrating sound and ethical judgment.

  • Ability at both a strategic and tactical level to identify security issues, and customise and implement/execute solutions.

  • Provide highly innovative solutions to complex problems.

  • Assess and execute on the highest priority issues.

  • International experience is essential.

  • Fluency (both written and spoken) in one or more second languages will be an advantage.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds, countries of origin, and at varying levels within the corporate structure.

  • Polished interpersonal skills and excellent research and writing abilities under tight deadlines and competing demands.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure in complex situations.
