New Forests is seeking a motivated and analytical individual for a newly created 4-month Sustainability & Impact Internship, based in Singapore. The Sustainability & Impact team provides oversight and support to New Forests portfolio companies in Asia to ensure compliance with environmental and social (E&S) requirements and achievement of E&S objectives, while enabling delivery of impact-focused initiatives.
Working closely with the Sustainability & Impact team and colleagues across the business, the intern will support the development and roll-out of Environmental and Social Management Systems (SEMS) components at our portfolio companies, as well as contribute to E&S compliance monitoring and E&S data gathering and reporting. This opportunity is suited to a final-year student or recent graduate with a strong interest in ESG, sustainability, and impact investing, and a desire to apply these skills in the natural capital / real assets context
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Assist in drafting, organising, and updating relevant SEMS documentation (e.g., management plans, manuals, standard operating procedures, work instructions, guidance notes).
- Support consistent implementation of SEMS requirements across assets, including delivery of capacity-building trainings.
- Support annual review against the IFC Performance Standards, including audit preparation and reporting of findings.
- Track progress against annual Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAPs) and compile evidence for monitoring and close-out.
- Quality-check quantitative E&S data reported by portfolio companies to improve accuracy and reliability.
- Support preparation of materials and inputs for client E&S reporting.
Qualifications, Experience and Strengths
We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications, experience, and strengths:
- Undergraduate or postgraduate student, or recent graduate, in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources Management, Sustainability, International Development, Public Policy, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
- Strong interest in real assets, natural capital, sustainability, and impact investing.
- Experience or interest in forestry, agriculture, carbon markets, or sustainable land use is desirable.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, particularly in E&S data analysis.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills. English language proficiency is a must, and ability to communicate in multiple regional languages (e.g. Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai) will be strongly regarded.
- Curious, proactive, and able to take ownership of assigned tasks in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience using AI tools to problem-solve and automate tasks (desirable but not required).
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint and Excel.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to think outside the box, contribute to debate, and communicate ideas and suggestions effectively.
