Our client is a chemicals MNC, now establishing a new R&D lab in Singapore. The lab will focus primarily on coatings and additives, supporting innovation across Southeast Asia and China. This newly created role sits at the centre of regional IP creation, collaboration management, and patent strategy.
Responsibilities
- Partner with scientists to capture inventions, assess disclosures, and guide innovations through the patent process.
- Manage IP activities for chemical compounds, formulations, and applications developed in the new Singapore lab.
- Support patent drafting, procurement, and portfolio development (legal degree not required).
- Conduct IP analytics, including patentability, freedom‑to‑operate, and competitive landscape reviews.
- Maintain and update the regional IP pipeline across SEA and China, ensuring alignment with business and global IP teams.
- Coordinate co‑innovation activities with external partners and provide local support for IP‑related processes.
- Work closely with US‑based stakeholders (dotted reporting line to the Senior Director, Chemical Design & Synthesis).
Requirements
- Strong chemistry background is essential — ideally Degree/MSc/MTech in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields.
- 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in specialty chemicals, food chemistry, batteries, or electronics.
- Experience in patent mining, drafting, prosecution, or IP management is preferred.
- Solid understanding of chemical formulations and lab‑to‑patent workflows.
- Proficiency in patent search tools (e.g., PatSnap, Derwent, Minesoft).
- Bilingual in English and Mandarin to manage China IP matters.
- Strong analytical, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
