Instrument Technician

Brief Summary:

• Support the safe, accurate preparation, processing, and dispatch of surgical instruments and equipment. Maintain reliable inventory records, operational standards, and responsive service across delivery and collection activities.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and support the delivery and collection of instruments as required. Prepare, pack, and assemble surgical instrument trays and sets. Inspect instruments before packing and dispatch to confirm cleanliness, functionality, completeness, and condition. Maintain an orderly, clean, and compliant decontamination and packing area. Manage instrument inventory, including record-keeping, storage, stock counts, cycle counts, stock takes, and applicable FIFO/FEFO practices. Investigate, record, and promptly report inventory discrepancies, missing or damaged instruments, equipment faults, non-conforming products, and process deviations. Escalate operational issues to the appropriate manager when necessary. Maintain accurate and confidential records for decontamination, inventory, dispatch, and delivery activities. Provide prompt and professional support to internal and external stakeholders. Perform additional duties assigned by the Reporting Manager.

Requirements

• NITEC, Higher NITEC, Diploma, or an equivalent qualification in Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, Healthcare Support, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline. One to two years of relevant experience in instrument processing, sterile services, medical devices, healthcare operations, warehousing, or inventory management is preferred. Knowledge of surgical instruments and medical devices is preferred. Ability to safely handle instrument trays, equipment, and inventory items. Availability for rotational standby duties, including weekends and public holidays, when required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Familiarity with inventory management systems.
