Position Overview
The Steel Bender and Fixer is responsible for cutting, bending, fabricating, and fixing steel reinforcement bars (rebar) and mesh used in reinforced concrete structures. The role ensures reinforcement is placed accurately according to drawings, specifications, and safety standards to maintain the structural integrity of buildings, bridges, roads, and other civil engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret construction drawings, bar bending schedules, and specifications.
- Measure, cut, bend, and shape steel bars and mesh using hand tools, machinery, and cutting equipment.
- Assemble reinforcement cages and fix rebar into formwork or molds prior to concrete pouring.
- Secure reinforcement using steel wire ties, clips, and spacers to ensure proper positioning.
- Check dimensions, alignment, and spacing against project drawings and standards.
- Operate bending machines, cutters, and other equipment safely and efficiently.
- Work closely with site supervisors, engineers, and other trades to ensure timely project completion.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Follow all site safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
