Job Description

Brief Summary

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Relations Manager to oversee our industrial and employee relations initiatives. This role involves fostering strong union-management relationships and ensuring compliance with local employment regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison with unions, facilitating constructive relationships. Lead negotiations for Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs), Collective Agreements, and other related arrangements. Develop strategies and management responses for union negotiations. Advise management on union representation, membership issues, and emerging industrial relations challenges. Guide management on handling complex grievances, disciplinary matters, and employment disputes. Support workplace investigations and ensure fair resolution of cases. Ensure consistent application of HR policies and procedural fairness. Maintain thorough documentation for significant employee relations matters. Provide specialist advice on relevant employment and industrial relations legislation. Monitor legislative changes and recommend necessary organizational policy updates. Review HR policies for compliance and effectiveness. Identify and mitigate risks relating to employee and industrial relations. Act as a trusted advisor to senior management and HR on sensitive matters. Coach management on grievance handling and strengthen overall management capability. Liaise with government agencies and external advisors as needed.

Requirements

  • Degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, or Law. 8-12 years of relevant experience in HR or employee relations. Proven experience in union engagement, negotiations, and grievance management. Strong knowledge of local employment and industrial relations laws. Experience in a healthcare, unionized, or labor-intensive environment is advantageous. Expertise in industrial and employee relations, including negotiation and stakeholder management. Proficient in employment legislation interpretation and conflict resolution. Demonstrated strong judgment, negotiation, and influencing skills. Effective and clear communication skills. High integrity, confidentiality, and ability to manage sensitive situations. Ability to balance the interests of employees, unions, and the organization.
