Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Digitisation of RSYC's Photograph and Archive Collection

  • Digitise and scan the RSYC photograph collection (assorted formats) and select archival materials (paper records and other formats) in line with in-house archive policies and strategy. Ability to handle historic items with care. This work will also involve digital editing and enhancement of images, where appropriate.
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of digitised content.
  • Arrange and maintain order, consistency, and metadata standards on the RSYC image server. Maintain the order and arrangement of the physical collections by ensuring images and records are refiled accurately after use, in a timely fashion.
  • Describe digitised assets at the item level on RSYC's catalogue to international cataloguing standards and controlled vocabularies.

Archives Management Support

  • Support the preservation and accessibility of the RSYC archives collection by cataloguing records and re-packaging fragile items.
  • Identify historical records which can be used to support storytelling.

Heritage Storytelling Support

  • Assist in curating narratives, timelines, and displays for heritage exhibitions and publications.
  • Conduct basic research on historical milestones, past events, and Club achievements.
  • Support preparation of heritage-related communications, presentations, and promotional content.

Project Support

  • Work closely with the Heritage Project Committee to meet project timelines.
  • Propose ideas to improve the accessibility and presentation of archived content.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in archiving, public heritage, and history. The successful candidate will receive training in archives management.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic photo/document digitisation tools (e.g. scanners, Adobe Acrobat, basic photo editing).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Desirable

  • A qualification in digital librarianship, archiving, or the humanities.
  • Experience in working with heritage collections.
