Job Description

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide musical leadership and support in the management and delivery of curriculum, which includes:

a. Undertaking of 14 to 18 hours per week during term time for individual lessons, lectures, chamber music, small ensembles, orchestral sectionals, faculty studies and masterclasses

b. Designing, preparing and developing curriculum materials, including syllabi and a vibrant artistic programme for various wind ensembles

c. Contributing towards review of curriculum and academic activities

d. Overseeing the learning progress, performance, attendance and well-being of students in this Faculty

e. Mentoring and assessing students assignments/performances/projects

f. Performing administrative duties as expected of an academic staff

  • Assist in the planning and organisation of a variety of activities and events, such as performances, showcases, exhibitions, Open House or any internal/external events
  • Foster a quality-focused learning environment, where students are well-supported and provided with the necessary guidance to fulfil their potential in a variety of potential career
  • Establish and develop links with the industry and institutions, so as to foster a total approach of academic pursuit alongside industry practice and professional development
  • Be involved in Programme/School level strategic planning and contribute to the Academy's strategic planning process
  • With above points 4 and 5 in consideration, strategize recruitment plans to raise and maintain student enrolment numbers and create opportunities for future employmen
  • Maintain an active interest in artistic and pedagogical innovations in faculty specialisation, music and education by updating teaching methods, standards and repertoire that is comparable with the current local and international music landscape
  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications

You should minimally possess a Masters Degree qualification in related discipline, a reputation in artistic-scholarly practice with a minimum 5 years of teaching and relevant working experience at a tertiary level.

Extensive knowledge and broad range of experience in wind and brass repertoire, programming and contemporary pedagogical methods and experience in academic programme management, as well as curriculum development to develop theoretical foundation for performers.

An active practice in research, orchestral leadership, ensemble co-ordination and collaboration, with extended professional network in musical and pedagogical to organise guest masterclasses, external adjudicators and industry-related projects where appropriate.

A positive, enthusiastic and results-oriented with the ability to engage students in their learning and prepare them for a diverse range of artistic opportunities to perform, as well as a team player with good interpersonal skills, excellent communication, problem-solving and analytical skills.
