Title: Head of Trade Compliance (Medical Device MNC)

Our client is global Medical Device company. They have presence both locally as well as internationally.
As part of their continued growth, they are seeking a highly experienced Head of Trade Compliance to strengthen their global compliance framework and safeguard international supply chain.
The role will be the Subject Matter expert on import/export controls, customs compliance, export regulations, sanctions, and other trade risk management across multiple regions.
This is a highly visible role partnering closely cross functional teams worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a robust global trade compliance framework across global regions including Asia, Europe, and the Americas
- Establish standardized Global Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for import/export activities, ensuring consistency across all international subsidiaries
- Provide strategic counsel to Executive Leadership on the impact of geopolitical shifts, including trade wars, sanctions, and emerging tariff regimes
- Oversee customs compliance activities including HS classification, valuation, country of origin determination, and FTA eligibility
- Ensure compliance with global export control and act as the primary liaison with global customs authorities and regulatory bodies. regulatory bodies not limiting to HAS/ EU MDR/ FDA/ MHLW
- Serve as the global escalation authority for customs audits, shipment detentions, regulatory inspections, and enforcement actions, ensuring timely resolution and risk mitigation
- Lead and govern strategic relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and logistics partners across all operating regions to ensure consistent compliance standards and operational excellence
- Collaborate closely with Finance and Tax to ensure customs valuation methodologies are fully aligned with intercompany transfer pricing policies and global tax frameworks
- Drive duty optimization and trade efficiency initiatives while upholding the highest standards of regulatory compliance and internal governance
- Conceptualize and implement comprehensive trade compliance training programs to strengthen cross-functional awareness, accountability, and capabilities
- Continuously monitor global trade regulations, sanctions updates, and geopolitical developments while providing proactive, risk-based advisory to senior stakeholders and business leaders
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Trade, Law, Business Management, or related discipline
- Professional certifications such as Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) / Certified Export Specialist (CES) will be highly advantageous
- At least 10- 12 years of working experience in global trade compliance, export controls, or customs management, ideally within healthcare sectors such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or life sciences OR other highly regulated industries
- Strong working knowledge of customs valuation, tariff classification, export licensing, sanctions compliance, and FTAs
- Proven track record in engaging regulators, customs authorities, and external brokers
- Experience managing global compliance programs across multiple jurisdictions (US/EU/Asia)
- Strong analytical, stakeholder management, and executive communication skills
- Ability to operate in a matrixed and multinational environment with high regulatory complexity
