Head of Managed Investments, Group Wealth Management, Singapore

The Head of Managed Investments is responsible for leading and driving the strategic development, governance, profitability, and growth of Maybank Singapore's managed investment solutions business. The role oversees the full spectrum of managed investment offerings, including Unit Trusts, Discretionary Portfolio Management (DPM), Private Investments, and Digital Assets solutions.

The incumbent is accountable for product strategy, platform management, investment governance, sales enablement, partnership management, risk oversight, and regulatory compliance. The role works closely with Wealth Management, Private Banking, Risk, Compliance, Operations, Technology and Regional Product teams to deliver differentiated investment solutions aligned with the Bank's wealth management objectives.

The Head of Managed Investments reports locally to the Head of Wealth Management Products, Singapore, with matrix reporting responsibilities to the Head, Regional Products, Group Wealth Management, Malaysia.

Key Responsibilities

Business Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for the Managed Investments business in Singapore.
  • Drive business growth, revenue, assets under management (AUM), client penetration, and profitability across managed investment solutions.
  • Identify emerging investment trends and market opportunities to enhance the Bank's investment offerings and competitive positioning.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team covering managed investments, portfolio management, and investment product specialists.
  • Establish business objectives, performance metrics and governance standards for the function.

Unit Trust & Managed Funds Business

  • Oversee the end-to-end management of the Unit Trust and managed funds platform.
  • Formulate product shelf strategy, product selection methodology, and fund due diligence framework.
  • Lead fund onboarding, review and rationalisation activities to ensure a best-in-class investment offering.
  • Manage relationships with global asset managers, fund houses and strategic investment partners.
  • Chair or participate in product approval and governance committees relating to managed investment solutions.
  • Ensure product offerings remain aligned with client needs, market developments and regulatory requirements

Discretionary Portfolio Management (DPM)

  • Lead the Discretionary Portfolio Management business and portfolio management team.
  • Oversee investment strategy implementation and portfolio execution.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, risk metrics, benchmark adherence and investment outcomes.
  • Ensure robust governance over portfolio management activities, investment mandate compliance and client suitability.
  • Partner with Investment Advisory, Private Banking and Relationship Management teams to drive DPM adoption and AUM growth.

Private Investments & Alternatives

  • Own and lead the Bank's Private Investments platform, including private equity, private credit, private infrastructure, private real estate, hedge funds and other alternative investment solutions.
  • Develop and execute the Private Investments strategy to expand the Bank's alternatives offering and establish a competitive market position within the wealth management segment.
  • Drive sourcing, evaluation, selection and onboarding of private market investment opportunities and strategic partners.
  • Chair or oversee investment due diligence processes covering investment merits, manager assessment, risk evaluation, operational due diligence and commercial viability.
  • Establish product governance standards, suitability frameworks and risk controls for alternative and private market investments.
  • Manage relationships with global private market fund managers, general partners, placement agents, investment platforms and solution providers.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers, Investment Counsellors and Private Bankers to identify client needs, develop investment themes and drive client adoption.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, liquidity events, capital calls, distributions and ongoing manager oversight.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements governing accredited investor and institutional investment offerings.
  • Represent the Bank in negotiations with fund managers and strategic partners to secure exclusive mandates, preferred access and differentiated investment opportunities.

Digital Assets and Alternative Investment Solutions

  • Lead the development and governance of the Bank's digital assets business and related investment solutions.
  • Evaluate opportunities in digital assets, tokenised investments, blockchain-enabled wealth products and emerging investment technologies.
  • Establish frameworks covering product governance, risk management, operational controls and client suitability for digital asset offerings.
  • Collaborate with regional and group stakeholders to support innovation initiatives and strategic product launches.
  • Monitor market, regulatory and technology developments impacting digital asset investments

Product Governance and Risk Management

  • Ensure robust governance frameworks are maintained across all managed investment products and portfolios.
  • Oversee new product approvals, periodic product reviews, client suitability standards and investment risk management processes.
  • Partner with Risk, Compliance, Legal and Audit functions to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal policy requirements.
  • Maintain strong oversight of conduct risk, investment risk and operational risk within the managed investments business.
  • Act as the key escalation point for investment-related issues, product incidents and regulatory matters

Wealth Management & Sales Enablement

  • Work closely with Business Heads, Relationship Managers, Investment Counsellors and Private Bankers to drive business growth.
  • Develop investment themes, portfolio solutions and client propositions to support acquisition and deepening objectives.
  • Provide investment insights, market commentary and thought leadership to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead investment training and capability-building initiatives across Wealth Management distribution channels.
  • Support key client engagements and strategic investment discussions with affluent and private banking clients.

Stakeholder and Partner Management

  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across Singapore and the region.
  • Collaborate with Group Wealth Management, regional product teams and country stakeholders to align product strategies and governance standards.
  • Represent Singapore in regional product forums, investment committees and strategic initiatives.
  • Manage strategic relationships with asset managers, custodians, fintech partners and digital asset providers.

Leadership and People Management

  • Lead, coach and develop team members to build deep investment, portfolio management and product expertise.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration and strong risk management.
  • Drive succession planning, talent development and employee engagement within the team.
  • Promote continuous improvement, digitalisation and operational excellence.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting or a related discipline.
  • CFA, CAIA, FRM or other relevant professional qualifications preferred.
  • Postgraduate qualification or MBA would be advantageous.
  • Passed CACS Paper 1 & 2, RES 1B, CM-EIP, CM-SIP, CMFAS Module 8 & 8A; or exempted thereof
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in wealth management, investment products, portfolio management or private banking.
  • Significant experience managing Unit Trust/Funds platforms and managed investment solutions.
  • Proven experience leading Discretionary Portfolio Management businesses and portfolio construction frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of digital assets, alternative investments and emerging wealth management trends.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing senior professionals and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience engaging with regulators, governance committees and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial track record in delivering growth in AUM, revenue and client adoption.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and framework.
