Job Summary:
The Head of Long Haul is a high-impact leadership role responsible for the strategic steering and operational excellence of the organization's long-distance trade corridors. This position carries full P&L accountability for the performance, profitability, and growth of the Long Haul portfolio, with a specific focus on high-value Project Cargo.
Beyond trade-specific duties, the incumbent serves as a central lead for transversal business functions, ensuring that commercial strategies are harmonized across the organization. This role requires extensive cross-functional exposure, bridging the gap between trade management, global sales, equipment logistics, and corporate finance to drive a unified organizational vision.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Trade Leadership
- Develop and execute comprehensive business strategies for Long Haul trades, optimizing cargo-mix and customer segmentation to maximize vessel utilization and financial yields.
- Establish and adjust rate policies in alignment with global market trends and annual budgetary goals.
- Act as the primary authority for specialized cargo trade guidance, ensuring regional teams execute localized strategies effectively.
2. Financial Performance & P&L Accountability
- Assume full ownership of the Long Haul P&L, ensuring financial outcomes consistently meet or exceed industry benchmarks.
- Conduct deep-dive financial analysis to identify out of norm performance cases, utilizing contribution margin data to refine routing and cargo selection.
3. Cross-Functional Integration & Transversal Management
- Organizational Liaison: Lead collaboration with diverse internal desks (Reefer, Global Accounts, Finance, and Operations) to ensure seamless service delivery and process synchronization.
- Infrastructure & Resource Planning: Oversee transversal matters including global equipment planning, integrated service planning (ISP), and capacity management.
- Process Transformation: Identify and lead initiatives to improve business workflows, implementing best practice frameworks across the Long Haul organization to enhance team efficiency.
4. Market Expansion & Value-Added Services (VAS)
- Drive business development efforts for Project Cargo and niche market segments, focusing on customer diversification and high-margin opportunities.
- Lead the development and growth of the trade-owned Value-Added Services (VAS) portfolio, defining value propositions and driving upselling efforts across key global accounts.
- Manage the VAS opportunity pipeline and ensure regional trade owners are equipped with the tools and knowledge to meet aggressive growth targets.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- More than 1012 years of trade management or commercial leadership experience within a global container shipping liner.
- Proven track record of working across different functional silos (e.g., bridging Operations, Finance, and Sales) to achieve corporate objectives.
- Deep understanding of Long Haul trade dynamics, Project Cargo logistics, and the development of ancillary shipping products (VAS).
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to challenge the status quo and drive organizational change.
